Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I done the tour yesterday 21st of September and the difference between both men was astonishing. Firstly we met Gerrard and ex IRA prisoner who took us down the republican falls road, we spent an hour and a half with him and he was incredible, very informative, gave us the facts of the troubles and not 1 bit disrespectful to the other side.....
Then we met Mark ex uvf who took us down the loyalist Shankill road and didn't like the way he delivered their side. It was complete point scoring at every opportunity just putting down the Catholics constantly and his stories were full of holes. There was a mixture of Americans, Canadians, English and they all the same

This is a brilliant thought-provoking walk.
Sadly I have to agree with other reviewers that the Loyalist guide sold his side brilliantly but the Unionist was far too aggressive in his views. Also, the prevalence of memorial sites along the Shankhill Road ys not going to a;;ow forgetting or forgiving.
This is a must-do for anyone with a brain!

I agree with what others have already stated. The republican ( not Catholic!) ex prisoner gave us a comprehensive history of Ireland and the background to " the troubles". He had been an IRA member but accepted that atrocities had been committed by IRA / republican groups that could not be justified He was hopeful for the future.

The unionist guy was very focused on IRA atrocities and the fact that ex IRA members were now elected Sinn Fein politicians. He stated that both sides were re- arming and preparing for armed conflict again - in fact he seemed to relish the prospect.

I hope Northern Ireland finds permanent peace AND reconciliation

There were 2 tour guides representing the troubles in Northern Ireland. One from each side. Our first guide was Paul, who had been a member of the IRA and the Ulster point of view, was given by Mark. Both perspectives were fascinating and both wanted to progress the peace process in N. Ireland. I got the impression that there was still a long way to go. The tour consisted of a 3 hour walk around the Falls and Shankill Roads, with stops at various points with a narrative. Would definitely recommend.

In theory this is a great tour but in practicality there were a few issues. The tour commences with a 30 minute speech by a Unionist followed by a walk around the area and the another 30 minute speech by a Republican and another walk. None of this is under any shelter and it rained relentlessly on the day. Given we were in Ireland in summer we were not necessarily surprised but felt that both guides could have prepared accordingly by organising for us to stand under some kind of shelter - even a bus stop would have provided some relief. In the end even our raincoats couldn’t protect us and we left cold and very wet. The talks were interesting but didn’t really resonate when we spoke to other Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland who appeared to be coexisting with no discernable issues. I’m sure people passionate about the history may enjoy this tour more than we did.

I found the first half of the tour interesting and informative. our guide talked about the events and gave the history and context. I felt I had learnt something. The second guide was repetitive and didn't give much in the way of context. He certainly could have told us everything in 30 minutes. I could have done with a short refreshment break as it's a 3-hour tour or a shorter tour.

This is very nicely designed walking tour. You split your time 50/50 with a Republican and a Loyalist. It starts in the Falls Road area and finishes in the Loyalist Shankhill Road area.

Wrap up well since it is pretty cold in the winter.

Thanks to Mark and 'Rocky' for this informative tour. Both guides had a wealth of detail around ordinary folks lives and were able to explain and contextualise the past and the present experiences in the two communities. Open to questions at all times they were honest and open in their answers. Great tour j

Paul was very informative and openly spoke of his personal experience in Belfast. Appreciated his direct reponses to questions and detailed historical timeline. After one view you are given to a seocnd guide to present his view. A wonderful experience to help explain The Trouble in Belfast. Enjoyed this walkable pasrt of the city and seeing the murals, the people, and children as they ran home from school.

We took the tour as we wanted to hear from people that had experienced the 'troubles' and we weren't disappointed. We had 2 very friendly guides who were very frank about what had happened and answered every question put to them honestly and from their own experiences. This tour gave a frank and honest insight into Belfast, both past and present and I would highly recommend this to anybody that wants to hear the real truth.
