Great castle
Jul 2021 • Couples
This is a great castle with some great rooms with amazing architecture. The view from some of the towers is great. There is great place to relax to. Would highly recommend visiting as so much to see and do.

A must see
Jul 2021 • Couples
Really enjoyed walking around the castle. Could make it clearer what you can access with a ticket as there was several roped off areas which we seen tours go in and out of. Feels like we missed out on potentially interesting history and rooms through poor signage.

Otherwise a really pleasant tour. Felt historic. The WW2 blackout/blitz tunnel was really intense and felt better done than similar exhibits.

Would be good to have people monitor the behaviour of rude guests on the stairs in the keep. Although most kept to a few going up and then down, in single file. There was the odd few who barged up an already steep set of stairs causing distress to other guests.

Imposing Buildings
Jun 2021 • Couples
We didn't buy a ticket but you are able to walk into the castle grounds and appreciate the buildings from the outside. Had we been staying in Cardiff longer we would have toured inside because it appeared to be somewhere well worth visiting

A thousand years of history
Jul 2021 • Couples
Really fascinating to see how the site was used and developed throughout the years. Unfortunately as we had no headphones we were unable to use the audio guide do missed out on a lot of the information. Really wish they had more information fitted through the facility in text form. I think the strongest impression was the WW2 tunnels.

Impressive and informative
Jul 2021
Surprisingly intact, and very sympathetically restored in places. The staff we met were all friendly, and keen to show off their knowledge. The WW II bomb shelter experience gave a sobering insight into life in a global war. Even the cafe wasn't a rip-off.
Well worth a visit.

Sunny day at castle
Jul 2021 • Couples
We easily booked on line.
Wasn't sure about parking so took a bus into town with a day tripper ticket. Far better as the walk through town was pleasant.
Phone QR code scanned, no queuing for us and a map given.
Struggled with steps to castle but definitely worth every step. Views on the top were great.
Then on to the tunnels which were cool as the outside temp was unbearable....running commentary was very loud, I wished I had earplugs instead I put fingers in my ears incase my eardrums got damaged!
The fancy House on the opposite side to the tunnels was fancy and was hosting a wedding and we walked right through the seats before the guests arrived.
The lawyer area had a few things such as a horse and a very large deck chair but nothing more that would be fun for kids or adults to do.
There was an opportunity to walk around the outer walls but I was exhausted by this point and left.
At this price I may nit come again as it is a bit steep for wat it is.

Enjoyable and interesting
Jul 2021
I really enjoyed the castle. It was really interesting. They gave us devices that told us information in different parts of the castle. There was also a map provided. In the world war 2 tunnels the sound playing was very loud, I feel like there could a warning before people enter. I struggled with it a bit. Also there is lots of bike stands which was helpful as we cycled in. Otherwise I really enjoyed visiting the castle.

Climb up to the keep if you can for the view
Jul 2021 • Friends
Wasn't sure about paying the price to access all areas but would recommend this. We didn't pay for the guided tour. We particularly liked the view from the keep which was well worth the climb, the roman Wall and walk under the walls. Nice to sit in the sun enjoying a beer and cake!
