The fortress sprawls over a huge area making it the largest castle in Wales. Like the famous cheese, the castle has long been synonymous with Caerphilly. It dominates. Hogs the limelight. Think slumbering giant awaiting a call to arms. It's also a great backdrop for TV and film. It secured a starring role recently in the popular BBC TV series Merlin.

Lovely castle & lovely walks around the grounds..whilst visiting the area over the easter period, decided to take my son into castle to visit the dragon exhibits there. To my surprise there was quite a pricey admission charge...shocking !!!

The castle walls and the moat are very beautiful, so if you're there, take a walk around the moat. The castle interior is just like you would expect with dark cold rooms.

Very big grand castle, but little or no information about the history, the purpose of rooms, etc. Lots to see but we were never quite sure what we were looking at. Some information given but just not enough, had to look thinks up after the visit. Some information points not working. No audio guide, or other information source just a... More

We decided to take our 2 grandsons to see Caerphilly castle, on arrival it was a dry day and there was a good crowd of people in Caerphilly and heading to the castle, the admission fee was very good, for us it was £5.20 each and they were free under 5, inside the inner walls there was a reinactment society... Beautiful Castle definately worth a look. Lovely well kept grounds with a fantastic moat. Obviously there is a cost of £8 to go into the castle but strolling around the grounds are free. We had beautiful weather & that makes everything seem so much nicer.

This is the largest castle in South Wales and the 2nd largest in UK after Windsor. I was in already in awe when I saw the castle from the carpark. The artificial lake surrounding the medieval fortress gave it a dramatic look, coupled with the tower that has broken off and apparently leaning at an angle greater than that of... More
