Getting up to the parking lot is a challenge so you need to be prepared to be patient and reverse when needed to allow others to pass. The views are amazing even from parking area and you don’t need to climb the mountain to enjoy...More

Great day out ..parked at carpark and then attempted the hike, takes about 80 mins to climb. Tiring but worthy of the effort.

The car park wasn't well posted and we'd read that there was a café somewhere nearby, but we must've gone to a different car park. The climb had numerous routes, some more strenuous than others. We went to a beautiful little vineyard on the way...More

We parked at the most Westerly of the 2 NT car-parks, and we chose a less walked route heading around the West side of the mountain to approach the summit from the North. This was a pleasant walk, on which we passed just a few...More

The car parks are not well sign posted - but maybe this is deliberate to keep it secret! A walk from the Parc up through ancient oaks, along the old byway is delightful. Gradually climbing up through the trees the path opens on to the...More

We climbed Sugar Loaf on a glorious day in September. Although the final stretch is steep and rocky it was worth it as the views were spectacular..right across to the Bristol Channel on a clear day.

This is the ideal walk for someone starting off their exploration of the famous Beacons. Also credited with being the lonely mountain in Tolkeins Lord of the Rings. See if you can spot more from the summit, they are not far away.

Headed up from the national trust carpark. There's a map there although no markers on the path its not a hard route. A nice climb fir anyone of fairly good health. Just take your time and reach the top...views are lovely on a clear morning

We walked up on a sunny day and could see for miles and miles, we could even see the River Severn. The start is mostly flat and easy, the last part is a bit more difficult though. It was worth it for the stunning views...More

My wife and I were lulled into thinking this was going to be a gentle stroll! Started gently and then became steeper. However it was a great walk with fantastic views and well worth the effort. Highly recommend.

There is a car park about 3/4 of the way up. I often see people with a BBQ there. Not sure about right at the top of the mountain though.

Ruth, from the small Fro car park on the Bettws/Pantygelli side it is about 2hrs return for fit walkers. It is a white road access from both directions but reasonable passing places and the car park is not usually full... More
