Maidenhead Heritage Centre is not spectacular but it is very interesting if you are interested in the history of this ancient riverside town. The volunteers are well informed and very willing to pass on any information on the exhibits or Maidenhead in general. On my visit there was a special exhibition on the various floods that have engulfed Maidenhead over... More

We visited with Year 6 and the children found it interesting and enjoyable. The volunteers were very knowledgeable, giving the children insight into their local history. They also had activities to do in groups around the centre. The flight simulator was a definite hit even with the adults! To really appreciate what is there, you need to spend time looking.... More

When you pop in here the first thing you notice is how clean it all is, clearly well looked after. However the time in here on average is around ten minutes because it is uninterestingly presented, I wish it said something.

Sorry you felt that way. As you posted this a couple of days ago I am wondering on what day you visited.? At the beginning of this week we were in the process of changing exhibitions in the small gallery from Maidenhead and the Movies to FLOODS 1947. There are numerous show cases in the ground floor gallery including Hand... More

Such a lovely histrical day out. Maidenhead is such an old place and it was great to appreciate all the historical connections to it. We took the family its very interactive. Good restaurants and food and gifts which as always are pricey but you expect that

For some smaller museums, you go in with low expectations... this one was one. We had a voucher for the spitfire museum, which is in a upstairs area of the museum, and was available after watching a brief 2 min video. As always with these places, it is the volunteers who make the place, and can ask LOTS of questions.... More

Very friendly and informative staff for a large foreign group. They even found a German speaker in their volunteers to guide the fliers in the group on how to use the simulator. A very nice experience indeed, thanks to all at the museum.

Interesting local museum with Roman dress-up box for children. Would have liked to learn more about Tony Vandervell and his Company, but only a couple of small exhibits. The Spitfire exhibit would be worth a look but MUST be booked in advance!

The centre has a small, but excellent, permanent display of Maidenhead archaeology interesting to all age groups. It offers exhibitions, such as the current one on the now defunct Skindles Hotel, and features other attractions such as the current Spitfire simulator. Friendly volunteer guides can answer any questions.

I went to fly the Spitfire simulator and found it most impressive. The Heritage Centre is a little gem. We really enjoyed the exhibitions down stairs and the ATA Museum upstairs has some incredible items on display.

We moored our narrowboat and spent a day in Maidenhead. The Heritage Center is well worth a stop. Downstairs you are greeted by the friendly volunteers who staff the place and there is good info about the history of the town. But it's the upstairs that you must not miss! The "Grandma Flew Spitfires And You Can, Too!" exhibit and... More
