St Thomas’s Church. A welcome in the heart of the city Dating mostly from the Fifteenth Century, the Church of St Thomas a Becket stands in its own square at the north end of Salisbury High Street, a two-minute walk from the Cathedral Close. This has been a place of worship since the early Thirteenth Century. Please come in for a look round. Try to spot the “damned bishop” being led to Hell in the famous Doom painting. Or why not try counting all 250 angels on the roof, walls and pillars? There is full disabled access to all public areas of the church with ramps and an automatic door. Quiet, boisterous, contemplative, social: it’s always a good time to drop in to St Thomas’s. We’d be happy to meet you whenever you can stop by.

In the centre of town the stand out feature is the Doom Painting above the arch into the chancel. Still quite bright it gives you a great idea of what churches would have looked like before the reformers white washed our churches. Despite its busy location it was still a quiet and spiritual place when we visited.

I went to this church for historical interest. It is well worth a visit as there are some excellent paintings and impressive architecture. There is no charge to visit. Recommended.

I was invited to attend and escort a special needs couple to a carol service in aid of raising funds towards cancer research . There was excellent and tasteful lights and decor appropriate for the season and and carol service was in good and understanding wording suitable and long enough for people to withstand without any discomfort . It is... More

We visited this lovely old church to see what was advertised as a festival of Christmas trees, bit of a let down really,we imagined freshly cut spruce etc lining the aisles and scenting the church. Not so,just a few tiny little plastic trees decorated by the local schools perhaps? Really not worth a diversion to see this

I'm so sorry that you did not enjoy your visit to St Thomas's Christmas Tree Festival. This year we had over 119 trees entered for the Festival, all of which are supplied and decorated by local charities, schools and organisations. We had a record 15,000 visitors and have raised a huge amount of money and awareness for local charities, so... More

looked in at the window as it was being prepared for starting the next day, thinking it was open we ventured in and found a lovely welcome from all, who let us have a pre-look around at this annual event. It seemed a lovely peaceful, welcoming church. We were the first contributors to the charity and I hope they did... More

My wife and I were on a visit to the city and had travelled up for the day from Kent. We were wondering and came upon St Thomas and felt drawn in. We discovered the amazing medieval Last Judgement painting on the Chancel arch .There is some information available in the church. If you have a pair of binoculars, even... More

So few English churches have their medieval paintings -- but St. Thomas' has a complete Doom painting, as well as three smaller ones (Annunciation, Visitation, and Nativity scenes). We were welcomed in by the priest, who provided both his own views on the history and paintings as well as nice written material. A community fair and booksale was happening. Nice... More
