This mysterious stone circle is thought to have been constructed in Neolithic times between 2500 to 2000 BC by The Beaker people, who might have played a major role in the formation of another eerie ancient site at Stonehenge.

This is near Stonehenge as we were not able to touch the stones at stonehenge , one of my friend had suggested we visit Avebury. This is older than Stonehenge and has smaller stones but are spread out across the village fields. A nice walk,...More

After Stonehenge this was a breath of fresh air. You can get up close and personal with the Neolithic henge monument of three stone circles, around the village of Avebury in Wiltshire, in southwest England. One of the best known prehistoric sites in Britain, it...More

Great place for a good walk (takes about an hour to do the full circle) - the nice thing is you can actually touch the stones which makes the experience so much more real than at Stonehenge.

Even if you not that interested in neolithic stone circles its hard not be impressed with Avebury. Both the size of the stones and the extent of the area plus the fact that it is both contained within, and also surrounds a quaint, picturesque Wiltshire...More

The beauty and size of the stone circle and earth works will be the main draw for visitors, but the area offers so much more. From the shop with it's crop circle diary, to the other neolithic sites around, it offers a full day's worth...More

Love these stones. More atmosphere than a lot of others that are highly regarded. You might find the wishing tree.

We parked up free and walked round the stones. It's a good walk and has nice views. We were stopping during a long journey so didn't hang around but plenty of places for a picnic and there's facilities there if you want them.

This large circle of huge stones is indeed impressive. The onsite museum and mansion are well worth the visit also. This was my second trip there to walk the circumference of the stone circle and marvel at the amount of man/animal power that it took...More

Fascinating Neolithic site. We visited on our honeymoon in 1989. Connected with nearby burial mound.

Beautiful setting with an epic history, in love with the tree of life, which I felt some mediative state with. Great for budding photographers and perfect setting for a picnic. We walked miles with each stone with a unique character. It was amazing on some...More

We went without any pre planning or a map. But you can get them off the internet. Just the atmosphere is wonderful. We went on one of the guided tours which was excellent. As someone has said the site is really quite small... More

The Stagecoach 49 to Devizes runs hourly from the Bus Station a few hundred yards from the Rail Station. It stops outside the Red Lion Pub in Avebury. Why not use Google Maps to plan the journey and perhaps visit... More

Check Anderson Tours for a good guided tour. I got the combo with Avebury and Stonehenge at a cheap price point. The guide was very knowledgeable too!
