To be honest not quite sure what an abbey is but it's a nice little trip to visit. A large ruined structure which is nice to walk around, has lots of open space and is a nice trip for a short visit.

Experience the monastery from 1254, in the most magnificent green setting (avoid a rainy day) Stroll by the river. Have a picnic on the serene lawns.. Then nip across the road to the museum for a wander through Victorian Leeds.

A well preserved Cistercian Abbey, lots to see and the Abbey House Museum is a must. Do not forget your old pennies, for the machines and you get chance to view Victorian shops and their interiors.

The semi-ruins give visitors some sense of what life must have been like in this 12th-century abbey. Little is still roofed and some rooms are merely foundations, so younger visitors may not find it quite as interesting as other historic sites that have more immersive...More

Kirkstall abbey is one of the best places to visit in Leeds. Opposite the abbey grounds is a museum that gives lots of information about the monks who lived and worked at the Abbey
