About
Closed 21st Dec - February 2019. Located on the site of an 18th Century rope-walk, The Old Slaughterhouse is now the home of Escape Arts, a Stratford based Arts Charity. Entry is free. We host regular exhibitions, visual arts projects and manage an ongoing process of digital archiving, celebrating the town's history, it's people and their stories. Whether you are interested in local history, the arts or simply want to explore Stratford's past, we've got something for everyone. Our cafe offers hot and cold drinks plus a range of delicious home-made cakes and snacks. Baby changing facilities and high chairs are also available. Our gift shop sells a range of heritage souvenirs, local artists' work and unique gifts. Please note, there is no public parking on site. The building is equipped with ramps, stair-lift, accessible toilet and is situated next to a Disability Car Park. We are also dog friendly.

The Old Slaughterhouse Heritage and Arts Centre showcases local artists and sells unique handmade gifts and artwork. There is plenty of informational displays and memorabilia pertaining to Stratford’s history. They also have a cafe that serves homemade desserts, hot and cold beverages.

We went to the 'Call the Midwife' exhibition, celebrating the (now closed) Monroe Devis Maternity Home. We were especially interested as we named our first born child in memory of the happy time we spent there, however the whole venue caught our imagination and we'll definitely re-visit, if only for a cup of tea and piece of the delicious looking cake. Thanks all.

We were looking for a venue for a pre-wedding gathering for a small group of 15 or so family and friends. We took our own big saucepans and a pre-cooked meal – they had a hob, microwave, kettle, crockery etc. It was an attractive and quirky venue - with something of the ambience of a museum cafe. Someone was there to welcome us, and lock up after us. The website doesn't seem (yet) to do justice to the facilities: no clear impression of the layout and space available inside, or the space for a dozen cars (evenings) right in the centre of town. NB there is some confusion on the web about the phone number: 532110, not 523110. Prompt and helpful advice to our email enquiries about the facilities.

This little coffee shop is Stratford upon Avon's hidden gem.
I bring my 6 year old for lego club, but would recommend visiting this quaint idyllic haven in the town centre just for the hot drinks and cakes alone. Americano/latte/cappuccino is made with the very finest Monsoon Estate beans and the hot chocolate is to die for. The staff are very enthusiastic and love their work.
They also sell quirky items eg piggies, doorstop owls and other handmade products.
There are always exhibitions on display and this wonderful charity also support veterans, adults and children in the local community.
This place is located in the corner of the car park between Sheep Street and Bridge Street.
Go and find it. I promise you, there is no other place like it in the world! You won't be disappointed!

Lovely spot tucked away in the centre of Stratford-Upon-Avon. I was fascinated by the exhibitions concerning local history and the history of the building, which used to be a family owned butchers! The staff were very friendly and welcoming and I would definitely visit again! I also very much enjoyed a lovely (and very reasonably priced!) cup of coffee and slice of cake.

Delightful spot but only open certain days. Masses of local history about the building and the family and also special WW! display when I was there. Excellent tea and cakes

Thank you for visiting and leaving great feedback. The WW1 project was a truly wonderful project, we develop local exhibitions at the request of local people so there is always something new to see. We are developing a new website celebrating our exhibition work which we hope to launch in the new year. We hope to see you back again soon.
