About
Take a scenic ferry trip across the River Avon to the Waterside gardens by the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and recreation grounds. In operation since 1937, and fully rebuilt in 2010 by Avon Boating, 'Malvolio' as it is named has ferried thousands of passengers back and forth over the River Avon. As one of the last remaining hand wound chain ferries in the country you will get to see a unique angle of the river with views downriver to the Holy Trinity Church and upstream to the RST.

A fun way to get across the river but make sure you have cash. £1.00 for an adult, not sure about the price for a child.

An idyllic, quick and cheap way to cross the beautiful River Avon today accompanied by the lovely Andy. Fun for the kids!

This is a novel way to cross the river. It is £1 for adults and 50p for children. The man in charge tells you a little history on the way across.

Fabulous to see this up and running again, our last visit it wasn’t. A great bit of fun to add to your day
Great excuse to have a pint in the Dirty Duck too!

If in Stratford you have to do this.

Unique experience, only take minutes and it is just something to the able to tick off your done list.

Only working chain cranked river ferry in UK - why wouldn’t you?

Do it as part of a walk, pennies to do and a giggle.

A very different way to cross the river. It took only a couple of minutes. There was a good view of Holy Trinity church in the distance and the Royal Shakespeare theatre was very close. Well worth the £1 fare.

We spent £1 each to cross the river on the hand-operated chain ferry. Short and sweet. Fun. Especially recommended for little children.

Lovely and novel way of crossing the river Avon. Only on for a minute or so but one of those things you have to do. At £1 each it’s worth it just to say you have been on it. It also saves going back on yourself if you want to visit the church on the other side.

Good to ride on this historic ferry as we were in historic Stratford, although the crossing does not last long.

Good fun, would help if you had a cheerier driver. £1 adults, 50p for children. Intermittent when working, it seems to be pot luck
