This is a really nice, airy, modernized gallery in the centre of Newcastle, but I found the whole experience disappointing as a one-off visit whilst on holiday. There was only one room used for the core collection, which did contain some lovely pre-Raphaelite paintings, but...More

We often call in at the Laing when we are in Newcastle. The water colours, works by local artists and the Pre-Raphaelite paintings are an uplifting treat after trekking round the shops! Good refreshment facilities and shop too. It's also good that they welcome youngsters...More

A smaller inner city gallery. Not too daunting and som accessible art. Cafe a bit monopolised by grannies and some exhibits you have to pay for. Otherwise free and useful to add to a Newcastle day trip

The gallery was a warm, welcoming and dry space on a wet day in the Easter holidays. The highlights for me were the impressive Victorian masterpieces, and then the contrast provided by the Sean Scully pieces.More

Visited on Easter Monday with my 14 year old daughter. Some real gems of Victorian art with complete surprises thrown in ... Teapots and abstract masterpieces. Just the right size for a morning's visit. And splendid tea room too, especially with fresh gluten free cake...More

If you want to visit by car, use Dean Street car park and the gallery is less than two minutes away. There is enough to keep you occupied for 45 minutes and the northern section is undoubtedly the highlight. There is a small cafe and...More

A cannot honestly say that the Laing is my most favoured art gallery. However, I urge you to see the current BOMBERG exhibition, which marks the 60th anniversary of his premature death. A coup for this dusty venue. David Bomberg is the best artist that...More

This is a relatively small gallery, easily discovered within an hour's visit, to which I've been coming all my long life. It never fails to be an enjoyable pilgrimage. Sadly however I was unable to see the water-colours room as it was effectively inaccessible to...More
