Wonderful cultural space with loads to see and do for all - older folks, families, children etc A very interesting place to visit and most people could spend hours there and all for free. Two cafes situated within so refreshments on hand if needing a sit down and break whilst perusing this fab building and artefacts.

I have always enjoyed visiting the lovely building, however preferred it when it was The Hancock Museum and appealed to all ages. Nowadays I feel like it is 90% a huge creche, catering mainly for small children rather than for everybody, as it did in my opinion when it was The Hancock Museum. I like the fact that it has... I was unaware of this Museum and stumbled across it thanks to the brochure 'Meet Rome's Elite Horsemen', (an amazing series of events on Hadrian's Cavalry between 8 April & 10 Sep, 2017). What a great place. It is stacked full of the most wonderful exhibits ranging from a Anthropology section, amazing Roman section including the Emperor Hadrian's Cavalry Exhibition,... More

An excellent museum which is one of my "go to" locations - with lots of elements that are linked to the curriculum - and interesting! Both cafes are also fab - with the upstairs one having some great specials!

Visited here yesterday with a colleague to get some information. Had a great visit as always and Brian (I believe that's his name) on the main desk was incredibly helpful. He took time to go through all the information for the planetarium in particular and was a massive help.

We have visited a few times with the kids and they love it, its a very conveniently situated museum just a short walk from the heart of the city. Free museums in North that are fun and informative are hard to find so when we first visited here a couple of years ago we were surprised how good it actually... More

Came with our 4 year old dinasour mad son, he was amazed when he seen the t rex he loved all the dinasours, also all the stuffed animals and i like how they are all numbered so you can look at the number then look on the list to see what they are, great for parents who have little kids... More

This is a good place for animal lovers as it has a big collection of stuffed animals as well as some live snakes and lizards to see. Loved the t-rex skeleton and dinosaur exhibit as well. Had a nice meal in the cafe which served a good range of food at reasonable prices. The museum is also easily accessible via... More

Mainly natural history and ancient history. I enjoyed the section on Hadrians wall, and the ancient civilisations. Museum is slightly old fashioned with lots of glass cases and artefacts. Top points for welcoming staff, and not only is it free but they don't guilt you into donating like some London museums.
