West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village - one of the UK’s great archaeological sites - is a stunning recreation of the Anglo-Saxon settlement that occupied the site between 450-650 AD. There is lots to see and do at West Stow throughout the year. Wander through the village and imagine what life would have been like for the Anglo-Saxons who lived here. Visit the Museum to see hundreds of fascinating finds excavated from beneath your feet. Dress up as an Anglo-Saxon, become an archaeologist in our Mini-Dig and don't forget to meet the pigs and chickens! After visiting the Village, make sure you explore the historic landscape of our 125 acre Country Park. A large area of the park has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) as it is home to a variety of rare Breckland species. We run lots of exciting events from battle re-enactments to bushcraft.

A smashing walk in beautiful Breckland surroundings, the Saxon Village is a brilliant recreation. But you don't have to pay to enjoy the wonderful walks in the Country Park. I've been involved with the restoration of the River Lark and it is a joy to...More

£6 gets you through the entrance to this encapsulated piece of history. A piece of history that not many countries can boast about. £6.....what else will £6 get you? This place is an amazing insight into a life gone by. We were lucky that there...More

Went here with my then four year old daughter and my wife, and another family, the children loved the play area, which has a good variety of different play items including a den building area. Then into the Saxon village, you can walk around and...More

If you're in the area, this is well worth a look. A quaint little museum and a couple houses built for "experimental archaeology". Plenty of information about the influences behind their work. I expect it's a great day out when they've got people in traditional...More

Post holes and ashes are often all one gets at Anglo Saxon sites but here the experimental reconstructions provide an interpretation that helps bring the time and culture to life. One woman was experimenting on pot firing in a hollow pit and a man was...More

We very much enjoyed our visit to the Anglo Saxon village and felt that it was a window into the past. There were characters dressed up in costume and there was even a storyteller too. We enjoyed our visit very much and would definitely go...More

This is a nice place to go for a short walk out in the countryside but I'm a bit confused by the 'village'. I thought it would have some remains of the Anglo-Saxon times but it is simply a re-construct. Which is interesting but not...More

I'd read the mixed reviews and we had decided against visiting West Stowe based on those reviews. We were travelling from Lincoln to Ipswich and wanted somewhere to stop on the way. So glad we changed our minds. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and...More

It's years since we visited and we came with friends, excited to see the houses and artefacts. The signage is poor and it all felt a bit run-down. We watched the film and looked at the displays, which were amazing, but one display board had...More
