Built in 1819, this Grade 1 listed playhouse is the only surviving example of a Regency theatre in the UK. It is the only theatre open to the public in the National Trust's portfolio of properties. Fully restored to it's Georgian splendour, the intimate auditorium and exquisite decorative scheme will provide visitors with an unforgettable and unique theatrical experience. The Theatre presents a vibrant, year-round programme of drama, music, dance and stand up comedy. We also offer regular tours of the building, contact our Box Office to book a space on one of our tours.

It's behind you !!! Arabian Nights performed by a fantastically enthusiastic troop of young performers . Totally enthralling entertainment, ones to watch are the three young male actors who acted their socks off . Actually the two sisters and the genie were good as well. The Theatre Royal is also a joy to visit, all staff are friendly and informative.... More

Went for the theatre tour on Saturday morning and got a real chance to explore the theatre and see an impressive historic theatre. A very informative tour filled with useful information and a unique insight into the back-stage.

We decided to do something a little more cultural than usual, so we went to see "Oklahoma". Great theatre with beautiful facilities.

We went here as we were in the area and enjoyed a good performance by the Bury St Edmunds concert band. While we could hear everything perfectly well we couldn't see much as we had seats in the pit.

Watched a show here on Sunday, the best entertainment I have had for ages! Bury St Edmunds is very lucky to have such a Theatre. Not happy with the seating arrangements, but chose your seat wisely and a good evening's time can be had by all.

Lovely Victorian or is it Edwardian? theatre. Lots of local groups perform as well as national acts who like a smaller intimate venue. There is always something going on. We like the stalls (or seats/booths above the bottom seats).

We went again to our little theatre last night, I have not reviewed since the seating was improved. The play I went to see was unfortunately not to my taste but the theatre never fails to impress . The bar is excellent, warming and atmosphere very friendly. The staff are volunteers and it is a National Trust Property. It is... More

We were amazed at this little theatre. Having done the brewery tour (opposite) at the begining of the month, Mareen, our tour guide explained about the Theatre Royal and how it is now looked after by the National Trust. What a superb job they have done with this place. It's excellently run, being ushered to our seats in good time.... More
