This is well worth going to see - it is steeped in history, the cobbled road, the houses and gardens - you could lose yourself and imaging you were in a different time!

Stepping in to Vicars Close is like stepping back in time, and i can fully understand why it has been used as a back drop in several historical TV drama.

Considering it is claimed to be the oldest residential street with all of its original buildings, it is a must see if in Wells. Right next to the beautiful Wells Cathedral, it's easy to get to and costs nothing.

While you park the car and go to see the cathedral , go a little further and this is what you will see. a beautiful enclave of very lovely houses for the choristers etc.

Having seen this street on TV many times, we were actually a somewhat disappointed to see it in real life as it is a bit shabby and spoilt by the trappings of 21st century life, such as cars!
