Trip to the wheel

Amazing historic working knife grinding mill driven by a water wheel - fabulous! We often call in for a warm by the fire on a cold walk to forge dam.

This was really great. The best working water wheel and driven machinery I have every seen, and the two guides there on the day were fantastic. We went there as two adults while on a walk. Needs to be better advertised. Luckily Sheffield City Council never knocked it down all those years ago (as they had planned to do), so... More

Right in the heart of a wonderful park is this gem, it's fascinating to go inside and see this wheel house being restored. Loved it :)

Often walk my dog through through Porter wood and whiteley wood on my to the cafe at the top of the Woods for a cup of chocolate and always call in to the Shephers wheel (Porter Brook). Often there are people working the water powered machinery. On cold days they light a fire in the fire place to keep the... More

I did my work experience here in the mid 1970's, have visited hundreds of times over the past 50 years, and have written about it (elsewhere) at some length. For anyone interested in Sheffield/cutlery history, this will be a fascinating place to visit. Highly recommended. Ideally combined with a walk along the Porter Valley. It's easily accesible by public transport,... More

It's a very quaint tea room / cafe especially when there isn't a school party running around and causing havoc BUT the food is good, a little on the more expensive side (comparably). I'd like to have a cup of tea in a pot NOT a cup as I like my tea!! I'd also like the automatic piece of lettuce/... More

Hi i think you maybe have posted a review about a different site on the Shepherd Wheel site. There is no cafe at Shepherd Wheel. Sheffield Industrial Museums also operate Abbeydale Hamlet where there is a cafe and school children, but we do not serve bacon sandwiches there. More

Go and enjoy the walk as its so nice but also see what you will learn about old Sheffield. It's amazing as you are shocked at one this place is still around and two it was a massive game changer in Sheffield history.
