We went to visit as part of the Hertitage weekend and what a little gem. The volunteers were very welcoming and very friendly and answered all of our questions. We were offered tea and cakes and even the dog was allowed to go in. Lots of history, lovely little place. Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the great welcome!

Went for a visit as part of Heritage weekend. Fascinating place, very helpful volunteers. Good information. Nice peaceful spot for what was once a large abbey

As part of an ongoing project to explore the old churches and historic buildings in and around South Yorkshire, using only public transport, I took advantage of a sunny weekday afternoon to visit Beauchief Abbey. The 97 bus that I caught from High Street in Sheffield takes about 15 minutes to get to the junction of Abbeydale Road South and... More

Visited the Abbey on a Heritage Open Day guided tour. The history of this place is fascinating and to think the Abbey owned such vast tracts of land and was the hub of a hive of industry in its day is mind boggling. The setting today is beautiful and it's just incredible that such a gem is just up the... More

Just 100m from a busy suburban route, Beauchief Abbey lies in tranquil, leafy surroundings and carries an interesting history. The original building followed a 12th century gift of land that may have been motivated by guilt over the murder of Thomas a Becket - hence the dedication to St Thomas the Martyr. The current church was added to the original... More

Unusual and unexpected when you go inside! A peaceful and tranquil haven set in beautiful countryside. Check it is open first though, we were lucky to find such knowledgable and helpful people present.

Despite having lived in Sheffield for many years, I had never seen Beauchief Abbey until last weekend. It is now in the middle of a golf course, but well worth a look, although there isn't really that much to see. The Abbey tower itself wasn't open when I went but there was a peaceful atmosphere and the green open space... More

Lovely gardens - friendly staff - comfortable rooms. The only thing that disturbed a perfect night was the fire-alarm going off and my companion was reluctant to leave the delicous nibbles they were enjoying at the time.
