About
Beale Wildlife Park was founded in 1956 by Gilbert Beale who created the Child Beale Trust, a charitable organisation, dedicated to the care and conservation of rare and endangered mammals and birds. The Park is a great place to be with fun, adventure, gardens, amazing animals and birds and play areas for all ages - there's even a paddling pool and narrow gauge train! There is free parking on site and lots going on in the wider park too - visit our website for details.

Go round twice so you don't miss the animals
This is the only wildlife park in Berkshire and was very impressive. My favourite has to be the Scottish Wildcats who look like tabby cats, I saw them in the morning, didn't see them second time round, I also loved both lemur species, the farm animals, otters, lynxs, capybara, tayra (I never knew existed till my visit). It's a small park so recommend walking round twice so you don't miss any animal. I enjoyed it here, wanted to adopt an otter or lynx, hard to choose but the staff said a new adoption is coming soon, so will do that and visit again.

    A slightly disappointing day out
The park caters for all ages and the train ride is great. Unfortunately the park is a little run down in places, with some of the animal exhibits not in the best condition. The restaurant is shut for renovations and food stands are there in place of the restaurant. Unfortunately the food stands were really not good quality at all and quite expensive. I’d advise taking your own lunch & snacks until the restaurant reopens later this year. Overall a slightly disappointing day out.

    Gem of a place
We were visiting from out of area and came across this little gem of a place. Grandchildren absolutely loved it, as well as the animals there was a little train and several play areas as well as a little splash pool. Just wish we lived closer as we would be regular visitors here.

    Good day out but ...
We visited as my wife loves wildlife of all sorts, we quickly realised that we seemed to be the only couple without children or on a school trip! Never mind as we found many quiet areas of the park which were peaceful and saw a number of animals / birds that we had never seen elsewhere. The Gardens were very peaceful and well tended. The park is clearly enthusiastic about conservation which is great news and the animals seemed well looked after. So why only 3 stars? Overall the park seemed to be needing more investment and upgrading with a number of empty/ broken enclosures/ buildings although clearly it is understood how difficult that is in these current economic times. However the main issue as detailed by others is the total lack of food available on the site (I exclude the 5 sad looking sandwiches in the reception!) - as well as being very frustrating to visitors it must be causing a severe lack of income to the charity. (Apparently a new cafe will open in August but surely something could have been offered in the meantime - there were 2 closed Burger vans on site) We would love to come back in the future where hopefully further investment will have been made. We would encourage you to visit so that they can continue to develop the site and make it a major 5 star attraction in the future

Do the Oddballs encounter! Incredible value for money
I have to knock off one star because, although I loved my experience, this wildlife park is a bit too child friendly for my liking! By that I mean too many play areas, and all that space could be used for animals instead. I hadn’t been since I was a child myself, and my understanding is that they went a bit full on with the kids stuff at some point, and are slowly bringing it back to being a wildlife park. So that’s good. I booked the Oddballs encounter, quite last minute, and I’m so glad I did! The value for money was incredible! You pick the animals you’d like to meet, from a list, so it’s really tailored to you. A bit of confusion about where to meet the keeper - I was told there would be a flag outside the nocturnal house but, there was no flag, so I just loitered in the hope I’d be spotted, and I was! From start to finish this was a fantastic experience. I started off feeding a Cape Porcupine, then the Genets. They were just gorgeous (as was the Porcupine, of course!) and it was wonderful to be up so close. I apologised to every locust I sent to its ending, but those little Genets need to eat! Next it was off to feed the Cuscus in the nocturnal house. It’s really important to let your eyes adjust to the dark before you start walking around - you’ll not see anything otherwise! Once my eyes had started to adjust, we headed into the enclosure and I hand fed the Cuscus. The longer I was in there, the better my eyesight became, and I could really see the differences in each animal. Lastly, and this was just an added kindness, I was taken to see the Naked Mole Rats! I’d asked if that’s what they were, when feeding the Cuscus, because I’m a big fan of them and would pop over after. Instead, I got to, briefly, go behind the scenes and see one of my favourite animals up close! An absolute dream! I had no idea they squeak, and I was absolutely thrilled at this little extra. I couldn’t have asked for a single thing more out of this experience! After that it was back to meet my friend and her children, who we had to tear away from the play areas, so that we could squeeze in some animal viewing. I really enjoyed the large open space where the zebra and highland cattle were. The otters were gorgeous to watch. And the free-roaming wildlife was lovely to see. I’ll definitely go back, and I’ll definitely be doing another Oddballs encounter.

    Amazing day out!
Went yesterday and it was amazing! Loads of different animals that you wouldn’t see anywhere else. We also had an animal experience with the lemurs and got to feed them. Our keeper Amy was amazing and so educated. Made our day! Highly recommend!

    Peaceful and beautifully kept park!
Such a peaceful and well-kept park. Reasonably priced with a train ride for free! We went with our 12 year old who loves animals. Lots of animals to see on the walk around. Play park was good and we enjoyed burgers and chips from the outdoor catering van. This was a day trip as part of our camping holiday in Henley. A great find!

Over charged on food but a good day
We had a live day out however we were overcharged by £7 for our lunch. I mentioned this to the cashier but was dismissed I double checked and added up my total and it definitely came to £22 I was charged £29 the food stall was no help. I’ve emailed them and awaiting a response. If you are serving food it’s a basic skill to add up the total a 50p miss charge I could understand but this was almost £10 This is why I have left 3 start

Great gardens, loved the animal experiences
The gardens were amazing. Took loads of photo's. There has obviously been a lot of work put int the gardens, along with hanging baskets, pots and planters, really helps the park. Lovely and peaceful in the main garden and they have a hidden courtyard which is great for a picnic. The lady gardener was so helpful and wrote down plant names for me. Good to see the pool is open, the new restaurant is open - I understand that the menu will be extended soon as it's only just reopened. The toilets still need some attention but we were here on a busy day. The animal experiences are awesome and I can definitely recommend. we were even lucky enough to see the new lynx kittens out with their parents and a baby guanaco ! Some of the empty animal pens do need sorting - no signage to say if the area near the Scottish wildcats is getting done. its empty and looks like they will be rebuilt but it would be nice to read of any plans for this area on the old pens. We came as a group without children, and found plenty to enjoy, worth hanging around in the nocturnal house as once your eyes adjust they have some really unusual animals in there.

    Good, but not great
We had a great time over all, beautiful gardens, lots to see and plenty for kids to do, they loved the pool and jumping pillow. I personally thought the rat and mice enclosures were distasteful and unpleasant, the lady on the entrance gate seemed moody, the inflatable lead to a burn on my daughters ankle, the food was over priced; and the gift shop even more so (£6 for a basic magnet!) and it was swarming with wasps. The park was very empty today and it was very pleasant weather, I dont think it would've been quite as fun if busy or cold. Over all a nice day, there was a good variety of animals and lots of parks which were well enjoyed, it could be a great day out with a little improvement.

I’ve been a couple of times now and I do like it here but somewhat disappointed by the cafe today. We would normally bring a packed lunch. The menu has changed -but the website is still advertising the old one which we sat outside choosing from.
Place was dirty, no staff cleaning the tables or the floor, no cutlery at all, no napkins, run out of condiments - so much people were hunting around tables looking to find some. The table for putting used plates etc on was piled high. Food took a while but you expect that and was fine when it came.
We shall go back but only with a packed lunch.
Place could also do with a lick of paint as it looks a little shabby in places

Great park with plenty to see and a wide variety of animals. Keeper talks and hands on experiences run throughout the day which we really enjoyed. Was so pleased to see the refurbished cafe now open on our most recent visit, and I thought it offered a good selection of food and drink. Little one absolutely loves the train here, which does a loop around the whole park!

Good for school age children. Plenty of things to climb and explore. Animals were active and easy to see. Having to pay £14.50 for a 2 year old was very expensive!

I love seeing the animals at Beale Park and finding out about their behaviour and lives. The Green winged macaws are so beautiful and the tayra is interesting to watch. Gorgeous lynx and the owls are cute. A rainy day and a great cup of tea.

A really disappointing day out. Myself, my partner and 2 and half year old visted the park today and found it to be very run down.

A lack of food/hot drink facilities. With one eatery open- which was very expensive £10 for a burger on its own £4 for a tiny bowl of chips. Coffee was pretty awful to. Such a shame to see the coffee shop now closed down and nothing else put in its place- we use to love seeing all the models in there.

We also found most of the animal exhibits either empty, run down or difficult for our little one to see into due to condensation or height.

The gardens to walk around were dangerous with the bridge/wooden decking being particularly slippery.

Alot of areas around the gardens were fenced off.

The park play area for little ones had no ride along toys and the houses there were uninspiring and broken.

The train ride was the highlight for our child.

Where we are located I would say that next time we will be looking to spend a family day out. You would be wasting you money here and definitely can get your moneys worth else where- such as cotswold wildlife Park.

Quite a few animals we couldn't see, some having their breakfast maybe. Didn't use the train but was able to walk and see everything. Love the nocturnal room, Shetland ponies, otters, tortoise, owls and artic foxes in particular. Will come when it's warmer bit still worth it out of season.

We came across this park while looking for something to do, as we were going to stay at a nearby hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

The grounds are lovely, lots of statues dotted about and I imagine in the summer the plants all look great. Even in the winter it still all looked lovely.

It was fairly quiet (which was great for us!) but obviously a favourite for some more local as we spoke to a few people who go there more frequently.

We saw all the animals, and even saw a few new ones which was great. Even if the animals are tucked up warm inside you can still see them.

Our son is older now but it would've been somewhere we could've taken him when he was younger. It looked like there was a lot of parks and things for kids to be entertained.

We also went on the train ride. I liked the fact the train was included in the price and you got given a ticket for it when you arrived.

We took our own lunch, so no idea what the cafe is like.

Would definitely come back again.

If one person reads this and gains clarity on their decision to visit/ignore Beale Wildlife Park then I've done my job.

I have given 5* for our experience which includes the following below:
- 3 x lemur feeds + 2 x carnivore encounters = £160
- Visiting at the end of January where it seemed a lot quieter. No zoo sun = no animal fun is just a load of nonsense to be honest.

IF YOU FIND MY DAY BORING TO READ PLEASE SKIP BELOW TO ***

For what we did for the whole day and the other experiences at the park. It is absolutely 5*.
- The chap who did the lemur feeds (really helpful but I can't remember his name (Shawn Mendes look-a-like) was very knowledgeable and allowed the three children we had to have lemurs eat around their feet or on their lap safely. You only have 15 minutes but this actually is quite a lengthy period of time but this was more than enough - he must have added time on - as the lemurs were jumping about, going from person to the next and arguing with each other. Lemur encounters are £16.50 on top of entry fee.

- The carnivore encounters for £70 (admission included) were absolutely superb IF YOU ARE OPEN TO LEARNING ABOUT THE ANIMAL. People potentially look at the options and go "there's not an animal there for me so I don't fancy it. However watching the arctic foxes and lynx being fed and seeing their behaviours where you may not on a typical day admission experience made this super value for money. I forgot to mention you can actually FEED THE ANIMALS - lots of zoos offer £100+ for this so you are essentially paying HALF of that PRICE.
-Shout out to MATT who was superb with my partner's experience.

- Teezle the Porcupine and Rosie (the HUGE) binturong were part of my experience and I cannot recommend this enough. Instead of 3 x 15 min encounters I split half of my time with each of these two animals. Learning about the porcupine was superb and seeing a Binturong so close and being able to feed it definitely a tick off bucket list activity - shout out to MILO who was first class during my encounter.

I recommend adding an encounter onto your trip simply as its essentially £50 to feed three animals. I feel this is such value for money I may even return just to feed Rosie and Teezle as well.

***IF YOU DON'T THINK YOU WOULD LIKE TO EXPLORE THE ABOVE/MONEY IS FACTOR PLEASE READ:
- If you are bringing children (or are a fun seeking adult) then the standard admission price is very good. There are two play parks which vary but engage children, the japanese garden is a lovely walk, there is a shetland pony/highland cattle section off set at the back which peaceful and serene...and has a zipwire for fun seekers.
- I 100% RECOMMEND the TWILIGHT ZONE - a indoor, quiet and dark section that allows you to see three nocturnal creatures. For those with sensitivity to noise it is fantastic because....
- The patagonian conures are wee bit noisy. Beautiful, graceful in flight but very noisy. Noise sensitive people beware.
- See the otters. They're photogenic and adorable.
The animals will be in their enclosures and most likely (in winter) asleep and relaxing. They are lovely to watch but don't expect them to be performing backwards somersaults and doing the cancan. If you are like most people are aware they are simply their for a home and are lovely to watch then take the admission and enjoy the day. If you're going to moan they're not doing anything in their enclosure then stop moaning and put £50 away over the next few months towards the encounters.

That's all folks.

As it was a rainy day we didn't expect my little girl would be able to use the play park, but in saying that we still had a great time.
Lunch was delicious and very prompt.
We loved seeing all the animals and would love to go back in the summer
