Great local history of development of the town, and an entire reproduction of the Bayeux tapestry, which you will probably not want to study all of!

Came around this museum during my regular visits to Reading whilst shopping and exploring and became quite curious. I went inside as there is free admissions with donations welcome. They is a good collection of artefacts of very historical value that both links with Reading and the history of England as a whole. It is situated in the main town... More

Cracking free museum. Great museum with lots of interesting exhibts pitched to adults (detailed facts), teenagers (illustrations and real life of the people) to kids (role play). Really great museum to learn about the local history from Roman period onwards.

Reading Museum is located at the famous Town Hall, close to the town center, and offers the discerning tourists a stunning journey through history of the 17th century Britain to the present times. Another interesting and unique collection is the Bayeux Tapestry which is a tribute to the Victorian art form. A good place to spend quality time, if you... More

For a civic museum this isn't bad at all, helped largely by the copy of the Bayeux Tapestry and also the finds from Silchester. It is well worth a visit.

Had a good look around and it showed Reading's history well. Suttons, Huntley & Palmers, Reading Abbey to more recent venues that have gone such as the Boars head and Jackson corner.

Having lived in Reading for a number of years I thought it finally time to get over to Reading Museum with the children and realised I had been missing out for some time. It's a great little museum with plenty of interesting information and exhibits relating to Reading and the surrounding area. Of particular interest is the replica Bayeux Tapestry... More

Excellent local museum, we visit often with Grandchildren, and there is always something of interest. The current Train exhibit would be better if the descriptions were raised and made more legible. I am not that old a geezer, but found many items too low to be seen adequately.

We had a great visit on a Saturday afternoon. The exhibition about Reading's railway past was excellent, and we learned a lot about Reading we didn't know before. Loved the Huntley Palmers biscuit tin display. If coming to visit the Bayeux tapestry replica make sure you go at a time when there is a guided talk (the talk was at... More
