Oxford Castle Unlocked explores the 1000-years of Oxford's History. Led by one of our costumed character guides, the rich history of the castle with a prison at its heart will be revealed to you. The knowledgeable guide takes you through the history of the castle, and you get to explore various areas of the building. It was interesting to discover it's beginnings in Norman times and that it was used as a prison in it's relatively recent history.

You can only see this castle by tour. And yes it is a tourist attraction, knowing this I didn't expect too much but I was pleasantly surprised. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and encouraged questions. Being near 1000 years old the Castle has a rather extensive and colorful history. We were a very small group so when a particular... Our tour was led by Daniel Harris and the actor was so entertaining and made sure that the tour was interactive and educational - definitely the most interesting tour of a historical site. You are led through the floors of the castle and get to see the view of Oxford from the top of the castle before you are left... More

The place itself is of an outstanding history but what made our trip to this castle worth its money and time was the gentleman impersonating Daniel Harris who did an amazing job of getting our attention and involving us all in his presentation. I have never seen such commitment and such love put into a presentation. We absolutely love it... More

We went to Oxford on our trip to London to browse around this historic town, and by a coincidence we found this hidden gem. I am usually skeptical of paying for something I have not read about beforehand, but my travel partner convinced me that we should try. Boy am I glad we did just that! This is by far... More

We went to Oxford for a weekend away and decided to go to the castle on Sunday. Reasonable entry price which included a group tour of the castle and prison. Our guide was Elizabeth. (She was fab!) She made the tour very fun and educational. The experience was brilliant and I'd recommend anyone to go for a visit! I hope... More

Visited on 19th November 16. Really interesting tour they are run every 20 mins. opening at 10am. At the beginning it has to be a guided tour for health and safety reasons when going up to the tower, and then you have time to wander yourself at the end. Our tour guide was dressed in Victorian costume I think called Elizabeth.... More

Our guide was this very colourful gentleman who took us up the castle stairs to the very top to begin talking about this interesting place. The Oxford Castle Unlocked tour had begun! We gazed out of the various topside "windows" at the Oxford town below. From here, we descended into the very bowels of the castle where the prisons -... More
