If you have never discovered Abingdon's County Hall Museum now is the perfect time as we reopened in July 2012 after a £3 million restoration project. Visit our new galleries and discover why Abingdon is known as 'the oldest continuously inhabited town in England.' We welcome visitors of all ages and have a range of gallery guides, trails for families, objects to touch and costumes to try on. The main gallery tells the story of our town where you can see one of the last MGB Roadsters to come off the Abingdon factory production line, and discover why bun throwing is so significant to the town. Find out more about local people and places in our Abingdon Attic and if you have a head for heights you will enjoy the spectacular views from our roof. You can also visit our welcoming Mouse Hole cafe which serves light lunches and drinks.

As members of English Heritage and were in the area we wanted to visit this building especially as we noticed it was FREE entry for everyone. Unfortunately no access for wheelchairs. What a great find. Lovely cafe in the basement and a beautifully presented museum exhibiting the long history of Abingdon and surrounding area. Welcoming, friendly, informative staff. Exhibits to... Visited the Museum in October. What a pleasant surprise! So much to see there - the Museum is thoughtfully laid out and well presented. We started our visit in the Main Gallery - the gentleman at the reception desk was very helpful and explained what the Museum had to offer on each floor. We spent a long time in the... More

If you are interested in local History then a visit to the Abingdon County Hall Museum will be a good use of an hour or so. Combine with a coffee at one of the nearby coffee houses and a walk around the Abbey and surrounding parks.

Being Abingdon born I love to find out about the history of my home town and this place always comes up trumps. Lots of interesting exhibits with very helpful staff. I also recommend you go to the very top for some lovely views of Abingdon.

My family recently enjoyed a morning at this wonderful museum. We were with our grandchildren and visiting family who have lived in Abingdon for 40 years, and had never been to the museum before! Very interesting and historic building, free admission was a bonus for the group of 6. We were very impressed with the content and interactive displays. My... More

This small town museum is remarkably well furnished with displays from dinosaur skeletons to sports cars. Abingdon was once part of Berkshire which explains why some of the displays mentions Berkshire County. Hopefully you have enough strength to climb the last set of stairs to the roof where you get a great view of this historic town. It costs a... More

Nice bits of history and if you go to the very top on a fine clear day you can see the layout of Abingdon and well up the river to Oxford. Nice café under the museum which serves wonderful cakes with nice coffee.
