What people are saying
Apalling 'service', Apalling sauna.
Apr 2014
I made a visit to this disgusting flea pit today to become a member so I could take a sauna. On arrival, I was ignored while members were ushered past me. I waited while a woman asked questions about her child's swim times. Fair enough, but this went on for about 20 minutes. Once I finally was served, nobody said hi! sorry for the wait :) . . . . nope, nothing like that. The unpleasant man behind the counter said to me; 'i hope you've got an easy one for me then? I said, well, I'd like to become a member, and Im on a low wage. I came before and they told mne to bring whatever docs I had from the govt, which I had done. It's a 25 mile round trip for me, this is, by the way. He then proceeded to serve all the people behind me while talking over their shoulders to me . . ['they're members'! - oh great!!!] He told me that my documentation was 4 days out of date so there was nothing they could do for me. He made me feel like I was trying to steal something. So, I left, incredibly angry. Back at the van, I realised that all I wanted, realy, was a sauna . . ..today! And as luck would have it, I had a few quid spare. So, I went back in and asked how much a sauna would be if I wasn't a member. Something they might have asked me if they gave a toss. £5.00 the different guy says. He had also been totally ignoring me earlier, may I mention, and ushering members through, as I waited. So I go back to the van, get back to the booth, and say, hello, Id like a single to the sauna. £5.90 he says. [He just told me £5.00.] I would like to say they are simply incompetent, but it seemed a little more malicious than that. Anyway, I get in there. Lockers don't work. No water to drink . . .the fountain is dead [it's hanging off the wall] and the other fellow in the sauna is scraping the skin off his feet onto onto the floor. Oh, almost forgot, the showers are a tiny dribble of cold hate. No hot water at all. I had a better time visiting Russia in the early nineties. As i left I quiety said; 'thanks for nothing. ' I will never go back there. What a total nightmare.

The pool is now closed
Nov 2014 • Solo
The Temple Cowley Pools and gym have be permanently closed as of the end of 2014 and sold off to a developer (I believe). Too bad as despite some reviews, it was an institution in the Cowley community and a cool looking, albeit old pool.

Much past its glory
A very functional pool, but now much past its prime and threatened with closure. The pools are in dire need of a refit and refurb, but closing them down would probably result in the land being sold off. A sad state of affairs, as Oxford lacks in such accessible public facilities.

Local rec centre

I go to the gym here and have noticed signs that the pool heaters are sometimes on the fritz. Apparently the pool is going to be replaced soon and maintenance is increasing. That said, if you're looking for something inexpensive and local to do with your kids, go here. On weekends they sometimes blow up a giant pool toy / bouncy climbing thing that looks like it'd be a lot of fun to play on.

Not a tourist attraction but a great local sports facility
Oct 2012 • Solo
Not sure it should be listed as an attraction but if you're in the area and fancy some exercise it has a good pool, decent gym and some good classes. An asset to the community.

Swimming
A good place for all ages to go swimming. Have baby/toddler sessions which you have to book for as they get very busy. Lovely groups though and the lady who runs them is lovely and relaxes you enough to let go of your baby for a few seconds. The kids love going to.

Fantastic building representing the best...
Fantastic building representing the best that Oxford can offer in architecture.

The pools are to die for - spa heaven.

Service with a smile and lots of lockers.

You can't go wrong.
