A perfect place for a walk, especially during the warmer months - you can walk all the way from the city center or just talk a short stroll around. With plenty of benches it and some pubs close by it makes a perfect spot for...More

Visited on a chilly January afternoon. One imagines that we didn’t see the lock at it’s best and would imagine that on a sunnier day it would look better but we enjoyed our brief visit. Not too many boats on the move today which was...More

A lovely place to stroll, with a nice few pubs. It's a good place to find some quiet and natural areas in Oxford.

So many books and novels mention this lock. From Morse to Jerome k. Jerome. Ever fascinating watching the river traffic and the river. Was that montmorency barking?

this a quite a big lock and the walk around it is really nice. The lock-keepers house gives you a sense of history of days gone by.

Within 5 minutes walking distance of Iffley village is Iffley Lock where you can walk beside the canal to Oxford (about 40 minutes) and in the opposite direction - very relaxing.

What a pretty lock, so nice to see the lock-keeper enjoying tending the gardens. We approached via the river, wish we'd had time to walk alongside.

Great place to take a walk too or from central Oxford. We like to start from Iffley Village (a charming "island" in the sea that is Oxford) and walk down and along the canal.

We stayed in a hotel nearby and walked into Oxford from here, a fantastic walk which would take about half an hour, but we stopped to watch the various colleges students trying out rowing in a crew of eight.

The answer is NO as there are steps onto the lock gates and the bridge. The only way is via Donnington bridge where there is a ramp access to the towpath .

It could take a long time by road but if you can find your way along the river you could make it in 40 minutes
