The Bodleian Library is a working library which forms part of the University of Oxford. It is housed in a remarkable group of buildings which forms the historic heart of the University, and you can explore the quadrangles of these magnificent structures at no charge. Different ticket options allow you to visit the interior of some of the buildings, such as the University’s oldest teaching and examination room, The Divinity School (built 1427-88). Here you will discover more of the University’s fascinating history. Our guided tours go behind the scenes in the Library, including its oldest research library, dating from 1602-20.

The only way to see it (if you are not a staff member in the university) is by a tour. They have a few options - 30, 60 and 90 min. I recommend the longest. It's an amazing library.

Just heaven. The most beautiful building I have ever seen. Well done to Nancy the guide struggling on through a cold, would of missed out on this experience if she hadn't.

Found this really interesting, and at £8 each was good value for money. It's worth going over the road to the Weston library as well where there's free exhibitions

It's the Bod. It has books, lots of books, some of them are old books, some of them are rare books. The exhibitions are worth a visit if you are in Oxford, free and interesting.

We paid for the guided tour and we were with Ann she was Fab, entertaining, informative and made the tour the best it could be. The library itself is fascinating from the history to the modern way the university works. Its well worth visiting and paying for the tour.

Very interesting tour of the Divinity School and the Duke's medieval library -both used during the filming of Harry Potter. Beautiful ceiling in the Divinity School, interesting to hear why it's designed the way it is and to see all the old books and beautiful library (otherwise known as the Hogwarts library). Tour was short and therefore not too long... More

We're Harry Potter fans. So yeah, this worked for us. We once completely cheaped out on our wedding just so we could have 6 weeks in New Zealand to see all the Lord of the rings sets. We're that sad. Cya later.

We have just completed the extended tour of the Bodleian libraries and found it absolutely fascinating. You get access to places normally only for 'readers' and see some of the most ornate and beautiful stone and wooden decorations. The Radcliffe Camera is a work of art and the underground rooms are fascinating. The sense of history in some of the... More

The bodleian library was very interesting and I would do it again. The tour was very entertaining but we only stayed in the library for 10 minutes. It is a very beautiful building but we did stay in the hall for ages. Our tour guide was very talented and kept us all engaged. I just wish we got to see... More
