A superb space for art in a purpose built & equally stylish building, over the years they have shown a vast range of exhibitions that are equally challenging & accessible but never boring (all for free) The cafe bar is recommended & is often a live music venue and they have had many interesting talks, and show frequent film seasons... This gallery is lovely and spacious with a good collection of work on display. The opening of some new work wasn't ready, but took a peak over the barrier! Great book shop, bought two new books!

Having a free art gallery in the centre of Nottingham is one of the best things about Nottingham, you get the chance to see art from around the world for free, don't be a closed minded person Go plus they have a kids workshop on a Sunday if I remember rightly.

Well worth a visit here if you're in the area! Nearly always an interesting exhibition or two on to have a look at, some unusual gifts available in the shop, and the bar downstairs is lovely too (I think they still do Sunday lunches which are *amazing*). A really interesting building - if you look closely at the panelling on... More

This gallery has 3 very good spaces, and we very much enjoyed the exhibition we saw of black artists of the 80's. It was great to revisit the work, and even more timely as one has since been nominated for the Turner Prize. The shop was OK, though not as well stocked as some gallery shops, and the left luggage... Visited their black history exhibition. Varied exhibits. Found one piece in particular very emotional. Heart wrenching.

We regularly visit this gallery when we are in Nottingham, the exhibitions are always well presented and curated but, as is the nature of Contemporary 'Art' - they can be very variable / challenging. We've seen some extraordinary and brilliant work here, but other 'art' that leaves you scratching your head or thinking it wouldn't be out of place in... More

Often in Nottingham and when possible will pop into the art centre to view exhibition and refreshments in the café. The building itself may not pass a beauty contest but the exhibitions are certainly up there with the best. Current exhibition is no exception and being of an age when I can remember only too well the attitudes on display,... More

Attended the free Family Photo Booth event at the Contemporary today with my 7 and 4 year olds. It was a great event, we had a cool family picture taken which was beamed onto the walls. The kids then got a print each to customise. Lots of nice craft materials to use, friendly staff, cool environment and fun ideas! And... More

What the title says really. Don't let the ugly exterior put you off, this is an excellent space for displaying a wide range of art. The majority of the current exhibition wasn't to our taste but art is meant to evoke a reaction - it doesn't have to be a positive one. Pop in if your are in the area... More
