Lying in magnificent countryside next to a sweeping section of Hadrian's Wall and based at the site of Carvoran Roman Fort, the Roman Army Museum is an authentic and dramatic tribute to Rome’s extraordinary military legacy. Step into the life of a Roman soldier and experience life on the front line of Emperor Hadrian’s formidable British frontier. Explored through reconstructions, objects excavated along Hadrian's Wall and the Vindolanda Trust’s inspiring interpretations of army life including the exclusive 3D Edge of Empire film, the museum pays unforgettable homage to Rome's military accomplishments in Britain.

A fascinating look at the Roman history in the area. The 3D movie was very interesting and pro used some fantastic footage of what remains of Hadrian's Wall and a look at what it may have been like to be posted in the area.

A sleek and sophisticated museum with excellent displays, targeted at all ages and suitable for all. The multi-AV museum is worth lingering in to make sure you don’t miss any of the looped presentations which are all slightly different and all imaginative. There is an excellent 3D film which includes aerial shots of The Wall as well as amusing/poignant recreations... More

Having been before, I was impressed that the museum continues to improve the various ways information is presented and the high quality of the audio visual entertainment. My three children loved it and would be happy to go back again tomorrow! The Edge of Empire 3D film is worth the ticket price alone, especially if you buy a joint ticket... More

A very good informative and well presented snap shot of the Roman occupation of Britannia. Plenty of archaeology to view of the day to day workings to defend the barrier that is Hadrian's wall. For anyone studying the Romans you need to put this on your itinerary. Vindolanda is still very much still work in progress as to on going... More

Great museum demonstrating what it would be like to be a Roman soldier. Interesting variety of displays and videos that kept all ages attentive. Nice picnic area in front of museum and easy access to a beautiful section of the Wall with stunning views towards Scotland

The museum itself is small but superbly designed, displaying a range of fascinating artefacts whilst also offering a vivid insight into life for Romans and Ancient Britons alike. The interactive elements delighted our children, and slightly gruesome mysteries were thought-provoking for our teenagers. There is a nice gift shop and chance for a cup of tea and a cake. We... Including the museum as part of a weekend break for my Probus Club raised the question - do we really want to see a Roman Museum? The visit including the classroom presentation and the film show was in fact enjoyed by all my group and we would recommend a visit to all ages. The hi-tech presentations were first class. Make... We had a very good educational and interesting time at the Roman army museum. Excellent displays and interesting films explaining life in the Roman army some 2 thousand years ago. It is located in a beautiful area. It is close to Hadrian's wall and on a nice day I would recommend visiting the quarry net door (free)and is a lovely... More
