Visit Roman Vindolanda today and you will find one of the North East’s most famous and not to be missed tourist attractions lying in the beautiful landscape of Hadrian's Wall Country. Formerly a key military post on the northern frontier of Britain, Vindolanda is the home of Britain's 'Top Treasure' - the Vindolanda Writing Tablets - and is one Europe's most important Roman archeological sites, with live excavations taking place every year. The recently fully refurbished on site museum provides a breathtaking exploration of the Trust's ongoing discoveries and accounts of Roman life. There are no other places on earth where it is possible to experience Roman Britain, Hadrian's Wall and history coming to life before your very eyes all in one space! Come and explore it for yourself and find out why Vindolanda is treasured worldwide.

The museum at Vindolanda is wonderful. Some of the artefacts found on sight can’t be seen anywhere else. Right up there with the best roman sites I have visited and I’ve seen a few. £11 for the joint site ticket is brilliant value.

The entrance was basic and didn’t fill us with hope but it just got better and better. The Romans chose a perfect spot with gorgeous views and an attractive, fast flowing river. Seeing the ruins and the layers of history and being able to walk...More

Even under the snow the place is impressive. The museum is very well made and the high point of the visit are the famous “tablets” discovered and the transcription made. Large collection of coins, loop videos, narrations.... they got it all!

Visited on a late December afternoon and wish we had longer as loads to see. Unfortunately we were kicked out at 4PM despite what iit says here and the website (5PM). Also alarmingly the paths around the fort excavations were so icy that it was...More
