The beautiful Grade II* Listed Delapre Abbey, just one mile from Northampton town centre, is entering an exciting new phase in its history.

Following the success of a Heritage Lottery Fund application in 2013, a £6.3 million project is underway to repair and restore this previously listed "Building At Risk".

The Delapre Abbey Preservation Trust is working with Northampton Borough Council to involve the community and volunteers in the restoration project and will then manage and operate the Abbey for the benefit of the public.

The Abbey will be opening its doors to visitors for the first time in its 900 year history in spring 2017, with The Trust managing the building as a fantastic historic venue for local, national and even international visitors.

Nice cafe but felt very hassled by waitress

Food and coffee were good, but the waitress was 'stalking'us and whipped our cups and plates away even before the last bite was in our mouths. We felt very rushed, and as there... read more

We visited the conservatory cafe today with family and we were thoroughly disappointed. The food is overpriced and poor quality. My husband had a cheese and pickle sandwich at £4.25-this consisted of 2 slices of bread with the thinnest slices of cheese I've ever seen-didn't know cheese could be cut that thin, and a spoonful.of mediocre pickle. I asked for... More

My mum and I visited the new cafe today. We felt there wasn't a wide range of food/sandwiches. The sandwiches were quite expensive for what you got, there wasn't any side salad that come with it. Literally the sandwich and that was it. It was £2.00 extra for a side salad or some chips. My mum thought the bread was... More

Food and coffee were good, but the waitress was 'stalking'us and whipped our cups and plates away even before the last bite was in our mouths. We felt very rushed, and as there was only one other table occupied, this was totally unnecessary.

I had booked an afternoon tea for my mothers birthday for 4 people. We were really looking forward to this anticipated visitors being regular visitors to the abbey before all the work started. We were sat in a separate room for afternoon tea which was lovely however this is where it all went wrong! Firstly the tea took around 20... More

Lovely airy room in the grounds of Delapre park. Sadly this is a self service cafe, no table service. We had tea and a cake. The selection was poor and the lemon Cake I ordered didn't appear homemade (I wouldn't have it again). Pleseant surroundings but overpriced.

Met a friend here for lunch to see for ourselves. Beautiful location, light, bright & airy. There are 2 tills & most of us were confused about where to queue but it transpires they've tried to split it so those who don't want hot food csn pay by the sandwich end. The staff seemed stretched but pleasant. My panini wasn't... More

Special birthday celebrations with Mum, two daughters and niece meeting up to share a lovely Afternoon Tea at The Conservatory at Delapre Abbey. It was an absolute disgrace even after allowances made for a new venue. Prosecco bottle dumped on table, waitress asked if she should open it., wine glasses provided not flutes, no ice bucket until halfway through the... More

Visited today with my children and friend, had a lovely walk while the children explored. Sadly the cafe let it down, even though beautiful and in the end they did cater for my children after I complained. The menu needs a serious re think, not much choice and not what I'd call a child's menu. Also very expensive!!!! The staff... More

Spectacular afternoon tea with family in the beautifully restored billiard room. Particular mention show go to passion fruit tart and raspberry/prosecco jelly - delicious! Lovely grounds for walks and will definitely be back when Abbey opens to public.
