We were shown around by a guide who unfortunately kept hurrying the group along once she'd finishing telling us about a particular room. We all felt that we should have been 'allowed' a few minutes to see the beautiful china etc.

We had a tour explaining the history of Althorp and then we walked around the grounds which were stunning! A worthwhile visit out of London.

Be prepared for a bit of a walk. When you get there, the photographic exhibition is amazing. The cafe is good value. The gift shop is extortionately priced! Overall, an amazing visit!

It was a priviledge to be shown around what is still very obviously a much loved family home. You are not just viewing the house but glimpsing a window into the lives of the Spencer family. The guide was knowledgeable and the tour was interesting....More

The tour is part of the entrance price & as far as I can recall there wasn't an option for the gardens only. Also be aware that Althorp doesn't open on many days during the year.

Main parking is well away from the house so I recommend direct contact with the Estate Office to discuss your needs. You need to get pertmission to drive up to the main entrance.

It's a bit of a trek and it's not open that often. The grounds aren't really open at the moment either. You may be better advised to try other places nearer to London. Hever castle or Leeds castle might be interesting... More
