Holy Trinity Goodramgate has the air of a hidden treasure. It stands in a small, secluded, leafy churchyard, with the Minster towering behind, tucked away behind Goodramgate - one of York's busiest shopping streets. To visit, you pass through an 18th-century archway tacked on to buildings that served as artisans' workshops in the 14th century. The church itself is full of character. The floors and arcades are charmingly uneven. Light filters through the windows, illuminating honey-coloured stone. The east window especially has marvellous stained glass that was donated in the early 1470s by the Reverend John Walker, rector of the church. On sunny days, transient gems of coloured light are scattered on the walls, and various Medieval faces stare out from the windows.

We were talking to a local who recommended visiting this little church. Although we were quite far away by the river her directions were spot on but it is very out of the way and we nearly missed it. So glad we didn't, it is delightful and very peaceful. We went back after lunch and sat in the gardens to... More

On the top end of Goodramgate, it is very easy to miss the entrance to this wonderful place, hidden away behind the shops that make up the frontage of the road lies this very quirky church. Go in to the garden and eat a peaceful lunch and marvel at the interior with a very peculiar seating arrangement. Leave with peace... More

I have visited this church several times. On a walking tour, to a flower festival and just to sit in the grounds. It can be accessed from Petergate and from Goodramgate and it would be possible to walk past many times without realising the church exists. It was good to be given a guided tour of the church and explanation... More

We visited this wonderful church for the second time while we were in York. It was so lovely to be able to walk around it again, it is steeped in history and I really liked the beautiful stained glass window and the wooden box pews. Once again, there was a helpful and knowledgeable volunteer on hand to answer any questions.... More

This church is a hidden gem. It has been preserved as it was a couple of hundred years ago, with family pews for the affluent parishoners. Well worth a visit.

In the middle of Goodramgate this little church has its georgian boxes. Operated by volenteers, great for all ages to discover something of Yorks history

We walked past this but didn't have time to stop, then struggled to find it the next day. I'm glad we did - there is some rare history and you feel as though you've stepped back in time.

We'd never have come across this church if it wasn't for Trip Advisor. A beautiful, well preserved church that is just behind the shops and offers an oasis of calm. The churchyard has plenty of benches for sitting and thinking and the interior of the church is breathtaking. Don't miss it

We stayed in an apartment on Low Petergate that overlooked this hidden gem so cut through a passage way on the street and went inside. A very helpful and knowledgeable volunteer emerged from the warmth of a lean-to somewhat incongruously bolted on to the side of the north wall in to the freezing cold interior to fill us in on...
