York's relationship with the River Ouse is complicated; providing the city with a charming waterfront, but also occasionally threatening, often severe, flooding. The walk alongside however, thankfully, offers no such complications. The stretch within the city's walls is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the busiest. The eastern part...More

The centre of York is such a busy tourist honey pot that it is nice to know that we can escape to the riverside for a relaxing stroll whenever we visit. Depending on the season, there are ducks and geese to see and the occasional...More

Lovely walk especially if the sun is out. Plenty of places to stop and sit or have a drink and watch river boats.

We walked from Fulford into the city, along the river. It is very popular with families, couples and cyclists. A good path surface ideal for prams, bicycles and wheelchairs.
