The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall is one of York’s medieval marvels. Set in beautiful gardens in the heart of historical York, it is open for public use as a museum, wedding and hospitality venue and meeting place some 650 years after construction began in 1357. This stunning timber framed building was constructed by a fraternity made up of York citizens to provide a base for charity, worship and business. Today, as well as being a fascinating accredited museum it is also a scheduled ancient monument and Grade 1 listed building. The Hall is home to many remarkable collections. Including silver, furniture and paintings, which provide a glimpse into the rich history of the Hall and the people associated with it. The Hall also remains the everyday base for the Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York. They invite you to discover the secrets of this unique guild hall and its 650 years of history.

This is fantastic. Best house we visited in York. Most interesting history. In a great spot now by many of the city bus stops. Easy to pop in and have a good look.

We walked past this twice on our way from our hotel in Walmgate to the main shopping centre in York and nearly missed it completely. Apparently part of Wolf Hall was filmed here and so we thought we'd take a look. We visited the Cafe...More

Visited as one of the historic buldings in York. This was an interesting building which has not been altered much since it was built. It seems to just miss the Wow factor and whether this is because of the use of the building I am...More

I won't spoil the history of this building but it is remarkable, audio handsets are available, but details are also available in each room. They have a small gift shop and coffee shop with outdoor seating weather permitting in the grounds. Wheelchair access is available

This is a really cool, well looked after medieval hall. When you go into the undercroft and the hall, do make sure to look up - the beamed ceilings are pretty spectacular.

David, The entry fee is £6,or £5 if,like me you're over 60. The opening time is 10am until 4pm(occasionally 3.30pm),and I wouldn't have thought that you'd need to book,we didn't. It takes a couple of hours to see it all and... More
