My boyfriend and I visited not thinking that there would be much in the museum however we're pleasantly surprised. The museum has multiple exhibits which were very interesting for both myself and, I would imagine, families. The street and interactive prison exhibits were also very fun

It's a great museum that displays our recent history and the street is a real step back in time. 3 generations of my family loved our visit.

Another of Yorks attractions that will not allow dogs inside. Unfair my dog is part of my family and probably better behaved than some children.

This is a good way to spend half a day. The prison cells with their video projection inmates telling their story is very effective. The period rooms appeal to the nostalgia in all of us. The children's toys are a great attraction. The Kirkgate Street and shops (and back-alleys and smells) are great. At weekends and holiday times volunteers often... More

I love museums an this was one of the best I have visited in a long time. Lots of variety in the exhibits and it was worth the visit just to walk down the Victorian street.

Very good exhibits, clear explanations on exhibits. Helpful, knowledgeable staff. The 1914 exhibit and the Victorian Street were my favourites. Cafe and shop were as expected for this type of organisation.

So much history in one building. We loved walking down the old street. The sound effects were amazing and really made you feel like you had stepped back in time. The gaol is a great area to walk around and very atmospheric. There is a cafe on site and a lift. The gift shop is very nice and the staff... More

Came across York castle museum while looking for something else and so glad we did. We found it informative, amusing, interesting and at time very moving. I can't wait to take the grand children as they would love the dressing up in the fasion area and getting involved in all the interactive stuff.
