Interesting property with ghostly cellar add on

An interesting property in the grounds of the Minster. We undertook the cellar tour, hard hats required, to find out about the Roman ghosts!

We recently tried to fit in as many visits in the area as we could with our national trust cards and we are glad we made the effort for this one. Parking was local but a little expensive as we were in the car but only a ten minute walk if that. The house is much larger than the outside... More

Well worth a visit to this National Trust house as very informative and friendly staff and an easy walk from the station. Close to The Minster and great to have a guided tour to the haunted cellar. Lovely garden and a tea rooms which we sadly missed but there's always next time! Small but well stocked shop and some bargains... More

I'm not really into walking round houses, but having had enough of shops, seemed worth having a look. It is an interesting house but what made our visit memorable were the staff in each room that provided lots of interesting anecdotes and historical facts. They were so helpful and welcoming. Their stories seemed to bring it all to life. This... More

Wonderful house with an very interesting history which is brought to live by the friendly staff. Kids loved the "hunt" finding stuff in each room which made it a please and great fun for them too.

Very nice house, hidden behind York Minster, with some great exhibit and very friendly guides who are more than happy to provide a greater level of insight into the history of the building and the people that lived here. Well worth a visit.

We had one afternoon left in York, and after glancing through some brochures decided to visit the Treasurer's house as it looked so intriguing. I'm so glad we did, because the house was every bit as lovely as the pictures, plus the history and the story of the owner Frank Green was so interesting. Best of all though was the... More

The appearance of the Treasurers House so close to the Minster called us in. We expected to learn something of the powerful mediaeval money men in the older history of the Anglican Church. Not at all. Frank Green of the Green economiser had glorified the place to his own ends. The guides were a treat in exploring what these might have... More

It doesn't look big from the outside but looks can be deceiving. There is lots to look at with an interesting mixture of a really old building with some sympathetic turn of the 20th century refurbishment. The house has many stories to tell and the staff are happy to provide as much information as you could want. You can just... More
