Went here in a chilly winter day. It's owned by English Heritage. I climbed the 99 steps from Whitby to it but it has road access and a car park, also a cafe and gift shop. Only an impressive ruin but a local brewery has set up in buildings just outside with draught local beer and sales :) Quite a... More

We decided to drive here instead of taking the steps from the town. Beautiful scenery. The Abbey looked amazing on top of the hill overlooking Whitby.

We were a group of 5 teenagers and 4 adults and I can say that all enjoyed this visit. The family ticket was good value for money and you can also get a audio tour as part of the entrance fee. It is really good as as you walk along there are signs to tell you what number to press... More

This ruined Benedictine abbey is the best attraction in Whitby. It is famous for its affiliation with the story of 'Dracula'. You can get there either by bus or train if you are visiting Yorkshire. Before going there you need to walk along the narrow stone paved street with a bunch of souvenir shops on the both side. Stepping upward... More

A lovely place to walk around, 199 steps to get to it only to find it was closed. Bit dissapointed. I know its out of season but lots of people up there. On the plus side i got some great photos.

These are great ruins to explore and there are good info boards dotted throughout the site with illustrations on what the abbey looked like. There is also a good audio guide available from the entrance which explains about the abbey through the ages. It's managed by English heritage and costs £7.10 to enter. The car park next to it is... You can use the tour bus to visit the abbey. It has a stop at the entrance. You can walk all around the abbey. Very interesting. Their is a cafe serving refreshments and has public conveniences. There is also a lovely old church which has a gift shop inside.

Could not have a weekend in Whitby without visiting the Abbey. Being 'off season ' the main entrance was closed so it was a bit of a walk to get in from the car park. The entrance is through the gift shop. A gentleman from ' English Heritage ' was here to help with questions. After a discussion about the... More

It's not all about DRACULA. The place has a great history. Take the time to read some of the headstones, sad to see families lose so many and so young. Not open all year round so check before you go.

We visited the Abbey after a lovely walk around Whitby. We visited the weekend before Halloween and I was gutted not to see it lit up and it was happening the week later. It's perfect for a family day out and you cannot get more beautiful surroundings. Truly one of the most stunning buildings I've seen and visited in a... More
