Had a tour with an excellent and knowledgeable guide who explained what a wonderful survival this is. If you can't get a tour you can view it through glass and read the information boards.

The Spitelfields Charnel House is an in-situ archaeological site. The site visible to the public is underground and glass covered at the pavement level, with a flight of stairs (and elevator for the disabled) down to the lower level for a closer look. The site...More

Had never heard of this until being taken to it on a walking tour of Spitalfields last year, organised by the Friends of the Royal Academy. It was a real highlight of the walk, and how fine that it has been preserved and incorporated into...More

Close to Spitalfields Market in the middle of a modern pedestrian square is a slightly macabre attraction. A section of glass paving in Bishop's Square allows views to the ruins of a medieval Charnel house below. A sunken courtyard with a glass wall running alongside...More

For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its
most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the
next big global trend, the hipster zone of
Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around
the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain
