I have now been twice to Trooping the Colour so I wanted to provide an updated review and help you plan - learn from my mistakes! :) Dont listen to people who say this is an over rated experience. Its actually the best time and place to see everything that is Britain. In one event you brush with Royalty, witness... More

The ceremony takes place, rain or shine, on the second Saturday in June, but there are two dress rehearsals on the previous two Saturdays. All the pageantry of the troops and massed bands only absent the royal family. I was fortunate in securing a seat for the ceremony six years ago but for the past four visits to London have... More

Fifteen years ago our family had seats at Horseguards Parade for the Trooping, this year I braved the crowds and stood along the Mall to watch the celebration of Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday. While six to seven people deep, the crowds were cheerful and friendly. On that sunny Saturday morning, the British superiority in staging ceremonies with pomp and circumstance... More

We were able to watch this take place on television while we were aboard the ship Queen Elizabeth in June. It was such an impressive display of pageantry to celebrate the official Birthday of the Sovereign and is carried out by her personal troops, the Household Division, on Horse Guards Parade, with the Queen herself attending and taking the salute.... You can pre-book seats on the Mall or just turn up on the Saturday morning in May. It is a rehearsal so no Queen or flypast, but so worth while for pomp and ceremony and colour and sense of occasion. We arrived on HorseGuards about 9.30am and secured a good position to see the procession. Then moved between Horse Guards... More

The very image of what one thinks of when one thinks of England... The pageantry... The formality.... The tradition..... For any Anglophile.... This official celebration is a must. Scope out a spot on The Mall the day before and get out here early.... I was there at 7AM in a spot down close to where the procession turns to go... More

We were lucky to secure 2 tickets through the ballot system, it was an amazing morning, the British doing what they do best. Will certainly be trying for tickets again next year.

While we didn't get tickets to the actual ceremony at Horse Guards, we stood outside Buckingham Palace to see the royals on their way to and from the Trooping ceremony (and after seeing the Trooping ceremony on TV later, I can say that we almost certainly still would have enjoyed viewing everything from the mall more than going to the... After watching on tv so many years it was even more magnificent in person than I could have imagined. I wasn't at Horse Guards but on The Mall and I got there just before 8am and had a good choice of where to stand at the front of the barrier. There are lots of trees and posts so picking a... More

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
