Packed on a sunny day

We visited the mixed ponds. Major issue is just how small the space is on the banks - towels effectively edge to edge across the grass and paving areas. Water is cold but ok and... read more

I have come here many times to walk the dogs and it's always so beautiful no matter if there is rain or sunshine! It has a bathing pond for men and women (separate) and has a cafe and places to get ice creams - tennis courts and lakes with ducks and swans. There are also big green spaces for the... More

The men's pond is a lovely place to swim & socialise with a mixed & quirky crowd. Best on a sunny days at the beginning and end of summer when the water is cooler and the crowds stay away. Unique.

Myself and my girlfriend visited on Tuesday 13th September after reading a story in "swim outdoors" book. We paid £4 on arrival and tried to find a space amongst the beer bottles, left food packaging and cigarette buts. Within 3 minutes two girls approached us saying 2 bags have been stolen, with everything inside whilst swimming and the police had... More

We visited the mixed ponds. Major issue is just how small the space is on the banks - towels effectively edge to edge across the grass and paving areas. Water is cold but ok and kids need to have an easy swimming test to check that they are ok. Nice to do, but more a place to go for a... More

Probably avoid on a summers weekend as it will be completely packed but fun. Mid week is cool. It's a pond so don't expect anything else.

We went here on one of the hottest days of the year --- it was 30+ C. The water was divine, cool enough to be refreshing, but not so much that you had to move around to keep warm; I particularly enjoyed just floating with my eyes closed. It was very clean --- slightly green from algae etc., but few... More

This is my favourite place for a swim in London. No chlorine and the odd duck swimming past! Need to be able to swim well as there is no bottom to the pond but temperatures in the summer are comparable to local pools so if you don't like the cold wait till the summer, however the cold water is surprisingly... The Hampstead swimming ponds are one of the cities calmest, most pleasant spaces - especially the Ladies pond which is very beautiful. Though swimming in these ponds may not be everybodys cup of tea they have lovely sunbathing areas too. The water can be chilly, but perfect on a summers day. An escape from the hustle and bustle of the... More

My sister swims here regularly and i thought she must be mad but i went along last week and had a lovely relaxing outdoor swim. After the initial shock of the cold water it was just so calming swimming leisurely around the pond with the ducks! My sister swims here all year round - but don't think she'll convince me... More
