One of the most famous rivers in Europe so it's iconic mostly for the bridges. However it is really dirty

I love seeing London from the river, it's lovely. We did a kayak tour with 'London kayaking' which is based in Chelsea. It was a tour called Big Ben and back and was fantastic. Very enjoyable way to see the city along the river. I have also taken a boat to Greenwich which was also really nice. A great way... More

Travelled from Greenwich to Vauxhall return on party boat. Brilliant way to see London from the old docks that have been converted to luxury living. Through the city of London and west end seeing landmarks such as tower bridge, tower of London, st Paul's and houses of parliament. Plus most of London's over landmarks.

The Thames is the place which defines London in my opinion. It beats through the city and so much revolves around it. It's still a working river and we saw goods being transported on it. We enjoyed a Clipper trip on it from Tower to Westminster.Kids enjoyed seeing some of the key sights of London from a different angle.

If you want to see the best and most famous spots in London, follow the river. This is the centre piece of London and its major attractions, be it monuments or bridges. The river is extremely powerful so do not swim in it, but definetely, opt for a river cruise or a boat bar/ restaurant experience. There are also boat... More

There are a few activities and things to see along the River Thames, and usually sand artists can be found in the section next to the ITV building. Also there's hundreds of places to eat and drink that are situated along this river, as well as several historic landmarks. However, is still dirty and polluted despite ongoing efforts to clean... Nice to look at, walk along, go on a boat on or just admire, but not good for swimming. My favourite bit is bankside

Used the Thames clipper for access from Tower of London to Westminster. Bit smelly in parts, but great experience. Also saw cargo being unloaded and really felt the history around the river

Staying in Southbank

Neighbourhood Profile
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
