In a city full of monuments of recognition it seems like a small gesture. However, if memory serves it was the people and not the authorities that commissioned the piece...it's also in London, the capital of the country William was trying to seperate from! So...More

Yeah as most note Mel Gibson's movie was not historically accurate but the film has no doubt brought this historical figure to prominence over the years. Key moments like the extreme execution of Wallace in London in 1305 near this memorial location is something that...More

A small memorial located on the wall at St Bartholomew Hospital to the memory of Sir William Wallace who fought dauntlessly for the freedom and independence of Scotland. He was eventually betrayed, captured and put to death near this spot in 1305. The impressive granite...More

This small memorial is dedicated to Sir William Wallace who was executed nearby in 1305, famous as one of the main leaders and fighters for Scottish independence. It is an important reminder, not very hard to find and many people are leaving tributes here.

If you ever saw Braveheart then you would be interested in the William Wallace memorial. A tragic end to a Scottish hero.

This is a stunning monument with a fantastic view. There is an easy walk to the monument. As always being a tourist is always a shame when you have to pay entry fees for everything & don't always feel that you get value for money.

Mentioned by the tour guide as we were on a Smithfield Walk. Although I've often walked around this area I had not noticed it. Interesting with Scottish independence in the news again.
