I visited the Bar&Kitchen quite a few times. There are two, one in front and one inside the BFI. The one in front serves burgers and such but the one in the back is far more posh when it comes to food and interior design. Prices are still quite low but food is incredible. You can visit even just for... More

Being a great movie fan, I found the BFI one of the biggest attractions in London - and perhaps the best cinema in the world. No matter when you're in London, you'll always get the chance to see some real old gem that's hard to find even on DVD, let alone in other movie theatres; there are sessions on actors,... More

BFI was great and accommodating as usual. Next to some great restaurants and cafes and not far from the train station!

We went to see Get It Off yesterday at the BFI and even though personally it wasn't my type of film, the cinema was very nice. The chairs are very comfortable and a good amount of room. Nice to see old films and I was told that if you arrive 30 mins before a film starts and you are between... More

As a movie lover, it feels a little blasphemous to rate the British Film Institute at only three stars. It's a really cool space with amazing retro and new screenings. The theaters are small but state-of-the-art, and the gift shop is filled with the most amazing gifts for any cinephile. So why the low rating? On my last visit to... More

Lovely location, great ambiance and good wine though a tad expensive. The service was poor though which was a shame. There did not seem to be a system of serving the tables so consequently it seemed that we fell out of every waiters' remit! In the end I went to the bar and waited for an age before a barman... Always a pleasure to eat here. This time I had a superb burger with fries and 'slaw. Excellent service and then it's a few steps to the cinema screens via the shop with its extensive range of books and DVDs.

Mixed experience, biggest let down being items on selected menu being substituted or simply not provided without explanation until we questioned staff. Started with chosen wine being off, then a warning they'd run out of one of the mains (this only 7pm) but they then came back saying they'd found some....this kind of set the tone.... Soup starter described with... More

It is a great film venue, always interesting things to see and do. Five stars for that. The catering/refreshments however are on the pricey side for what you are getting, and many of the staff seem totally disinterested.

While the exhibition, scheduled films and store are all well worth your time, by far the most valuable feature of BFI is the huge archive of films and TV programs contained in the Mediatheque. You will be hard-pressed to find a film that you're interested in to not be available for screening in one of their viewing stations, and it's... More

Staying in Southbank

Neighbourhood Profile
Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
