Art Deco Overload

Went with my wife as she is a deco fan. WOW! What a spectacular collection. It's a must visit for any fans or students interested in Art Deco.

Once the home of Kings and Queens, Eltham Palace was rescued from decay in the 1930's by the Courtalds who turned it into an Art Deco home for their lavish lifestyle. In it's current ownership it lacks any of the lavishness of the past and smells a bit of disinfectant. However it is a very good example of Art Deco... More

This is one of my favourite places in south London. The first palace was built by Henry VIII and the massive Great Hall is still standing. Although we were there in winter the gardens were beautiful. Can only imagine what they would look like in summer. Only open on a sunday... More

The wealthy Courtauld family turned this old palace in a luxurious Art Deco mansion. The entrance hall with a glass dome is absolutely stunning and many more rooms have a high wow-factor. I really enjoyed exploring the house from the top floor with the many bedrooms for their guests to the cellar with an air raid shelter. The gardens are also... More

So glad we made the effort to visit Eltham Palace on our last day in the UK. After a week of driving around the north of England visiting heaps of medieval castles, it was so refreshing to find this very interesting house of art deco style built on the site where Henry VIII himself grew up! In fact the medieval... More

When Henry VIII grew up in Eltham Palace, it was already a couple of hundred years old. One of the great royal palaces, it was ransacked during the Civil War in the 1640s and fell into ruin, only to be restored after World War One by the fabulously wealthy socialites Stephen and Virginia Courtauld. They did a great job of... More

Had a lovely autumnal day at Blenheim -very expensive as you have to buy an annual ticket that allows you entry once again ;however the cost of the ticket is £24.99. Grounds were delightful! The house was very interesting but the upstairs downstairs tour was not on offer, the private apartments are closed from September onwards and the cinema was closed... More
