The bates people really know hats . They know materials and how they are worn and cared for. They also maintain the hat if you pass by with a bit of a steam and brush. I would highly reccomend them !

This is a small, charming shop on Jermyn Street, which is famous for English men's wear (especially shirts and shoes). Bates has been selling gentlemen's hats there for over a century, and is worth a look-in if only to marvel at the stock and the...More

Small shop but lots of hats. Good selection of different types and materials. Service was professional. Perhaps I paid a bit more but the hat will last forever. Also Jermyn Street has several other excellent men's shops.

The title says it all. If you're not sure what you want, what will suit or simple have a hat fetish; this is the place for you. Enjoy.

I have been looking for a Panama and a felt trilby for a long time and was in London for just a couple of days. I went to a nearby competitor who were stand-offish and expensive. The contrast at Bates could not have been more...More
