About
This market is one of London’s oldest and largest food markets, with over 100 delicatessens, butchers, fishmongers, and cheesemakers selling fresh produce, meats, artisanal delicacies, and more. It's where locals come to do their grocery runs, and where travelers can come to try some of the best British food in a historic setting. Join a food and market tour of London to make sure you don't miss any of the best stalls. It gets busy on weekend afternoons, and some traders aren't open on all days—typically on limited market days early in the week—so be sure to plan ahead. – Tripadvisor

Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

    Fabulously vibrant
I hadn't read any reviews so turned up expecting a huge east London style market. It was much more artisan than I expected and has a fantastic vibrancy with lots to buy on offer. Not cheap but you can get so much from simply wandering around. We went to get late breakfast which was far more relaxed than going at lunchtime when it does feel very manic! Highly recommend, even my teen son loved it!

Still going strong and always worth a visit.
Still going strong and highly recommended if visiting London. Hadn’t been in several years (pre-pandemic) but was happy to find out that all of my favorite food potions were stilll available. Everyone should try the grilled chorizo roll from Brindisa!

    Good selection
Visited yesterday 22.02.24 busy little market with various food options available, looked really good and prise was reasonable for what appears good quality. I stupidly went to the Fish! Kitchen under the arches.. big mistake! Fair bit of seating available and toilets available only downside was the bloke with a guitar, trying to sing who ruined an OASIS classic (bring ear defenders)

Look for Bridget Jones’ Front door!
This is an amazing food market that seems to be very busy almost all the time. A great place if you’re hungry. You’ll be spoiled for choice. Whilst you’re there, see if you can find Bridget Jones’ front door!

Don't Skip Borough (or the Strawberries!)
Spent a hour wandering around and enjoying the delicious food stands. We tried the famous chocolate strawberries and they lived up to the hype! Shared mussels and chips and they were out of this world. Paella was good and husband enjoyed a corned beef sandwich. Longest wait was the line for Humble Crumble but worth it with delicious shortbread topping and real fresh whipped cream. Extremely crowded on a Wednesday afternoon the week before Easter - would love to visit again when the crowds aren't so crazy.

Very nice experience! Lovely but crowdy place
Very typical, crowdy and cosy place! One of the top favourite places in londen. You have to enjoy this area. Do not expect to sit down and eat but enjoy watching and have some quick bites while walking trough the area. I would not come there with small kids since it is very crowdy.

Stunning place for food and drinks
Was really impressed with this market. So much street food to choose from. Really busy place people and queues everywhere. Just goes to show how popular this place is. Once you’ve tried some dishes, then you understand why. We had steak pie at Pie Minster, Shuk stall which was a lamb minted spicy meat balls served in pita bread, which was banging! Also had Fish and chips, which was quite popular. The strawberries with chocolate sauce were delicious and so much more! Highly recommended!

    First Time Visit
I've travelled across the railway lines above Borough Market hundreds of times and spent a lot of time in London, but this was one place that had always escaped me until now. We visited on a weekday afternoon and had a pleasant wander round the market looking at all the different stalls. There is a wide variety of food available but sadly it is very busy and in some ways spoilt by tourism now - in it's heyday it must have been an amazing place. However, it's bustling and gives a great taste of both British and international cuisine. Certainly worth a visit, but can be expensive and busy.

    BOROUGH MARKET
Borough Market is a place we love. Located under the metro line, with its metallic architecture, it is a pleasant place to eat. The offer is diverse and varied, between sweet potatoes, chocolate strawberries etc.... you can eat as you wish. We love this place! Be careful, it's a very busy market on weekends! Closed on Monday.

    Busy market
A market with many stalls, especially with food, lots of food. It was teeming with people. There are also many eateries around the market. Nice to see and experience it, but in my opinion too busy. Enjoyed fresh strawberries.

We went to Borough Market for something to eat before a play at the Globe. It was Thursday around 4PM in August. We knew it was going to be busy, and it definitely was. We were elbow to elbow most of the time, but there were little areas to get away from people, luckily. My partner doesn't do well with big crowds, so she was a little fidgety. Be aware if you have similar issues.

The food though, was excellent. We first walked around to see what there was. We have seen the TikToks and read about some of the must gets, like the Turnip's Chocolate Covered Strawberries (a little pricy, but actually very good) and the Black Pic sandwiches (The Best One is legit). Be ready to wait in line for almost everything. The strawberry line was lightning fast though. The Black Pig was not so much. My partner got some tacos from a stand, but she wasn't a huge fan because they threw some onions on top that she wasn't aware of.

We also got some Goat's Milk Ice Cream from Greedy Goat (good!) and some "pick your own fudge" from another stand (a little chewy).

We had a good time, but the place is heaving with people, places to sit were rare, it's not the cleanest place, and it's a bit overpriced. The demand is sure there, so the bit of an extra cost seems like it is not deterring anyone. The shear amount of options is crazy. You can get about anything there.

You should definitely check it out.

We have been to Borough Market many times and it is always busy. We go because the produce and range of foods on sale are second to none. The market isn’t cheap, but it is a real treat for us to blow some of our hard earned cash there occasionally.
However, and this is a big however, we went there on the 18th December and the place was not just heaving, it was dangerously overcrowded. You could not move around the place safely and it was a haven for pickpockets. If anyone was wandering around there full of germs, my guess is that a plague has been started.
The most disappointing thing is that most people did not seem to be buying produce from the superb suppliers - too many tourists.
Stay away from here if you don’t like crowds.

Boro Market is one of London's most famous and established food markets and attracts many food lovers.

Underground: The nearest underground station is London Bridge Station, a few minutes' walk from the market. London Bridge station is served by the Jubilee Line and the Northern Line.
Bus: Several bus lines have stops nearby, such as 17, 21, 35, 40, 43, 47, 48, 133, 141, 149, 343, 344 and 381.
Trains: If you need to travel by train, it is recommended to buy a Railcard on Trainpal . Enter the RC777E at a 20% discount. There are a lot of locals in the UK who don't know about this discount and I super recommend it. If you can't use it, you can privately message or comment on me and share it!

Visited on a trip to London and found it a mixed bag and not helped by the large crowds.

The stalls are mixed and certainly cater for everyone. We stopped in and ate at a burger bar before exploring and although the stalls offer varied cuisines I would sadly say very few are worth the money.

My partner visited a strawberry and chocolate stall. The price was extortionate (£8.50 for half a dozen strawberries and some chocolate sauce) however people were queuing up and paying so I guess demand dictates the price.

Other stalls appear to charge similar premium prices for basic cuisine which wasn’t particularly different to pub grub or food stalls anywhere else.

There was a 20 minute wait to use the toilets and as mentioned the whole area was crammed and hard to move around.

It appears a lot of TikTok users are drawing attention to here and other places in London for cheaper eats and quirky food stalls however there are better available (Camden market is miles better for a start)

Visited for the first time with relatives on a Friday.
We avoided visiting on the weekend as friends told us it would be too crowded.
It was actually quite crowded on the Friday, so can't possibly imagine how crazy the weekend would have been!
The market has several entrances so if you're meeting folks, be very clear about your meeting spot and landmarks.
We had a feast for the eyes with baked goods, sweet confections, cheeses, exotic fruit & veggies, drinks, flowers, seafood, meats, honey, cooked foods, British faves...and even edible insects!
We enjoyed watching Paella being made from scratch and sampled fresh oysters.

It's something to experience once, or if you're a foodie do it as a treat now and then.
But heading here for a basic meal isn't as affordable as tik-tokers try to tell us.

Some places like Humble Crumble had extensive lines and people were braving the wait even in the pouring rain! There are some very popular food places here that have gained a reputation thanks to social media.

It was good to experience it once but it's not a place one can afford to enjoy (or would want to) regularly, especially with the jostling.

Hold onto kids and make a meeting plan in case you split up. It truly is very easy to lose your party in here.

Super super busy !
Try get there as soon as it opens as if you don’t you kind of have to move with the crowd and can’t really break off to look at stuff without someone getting annoyed.
There is a few food places prices are what you expect ie £3.50 for a small slice of a brownie or £10+ for something hot .
It’s also an actual market which sounds silly but when you see videos they don’t show the few veg/ fresh fish stall or the flower stall etc
It was hot hot and I noticed the cheese places don’t have coolers for there food which put me off .
If your in the area go see if not don’t rush

I'm glad we went but it was so big that it was overwhelming at first. Go when you have plenty of time to walk through the whole market and see every food stall, then decide what you want to eat. And don't assume that a long line guarantees good food. The juice bar stand had long lines and all of the juices and smoothies were delicious. The fish and chip stand that was "proud winners at the national fish & chip awards" on the other hand had long lines and an extensive menu but only had ONE kind of fish available that day -- and it wasn't anything to write home about. There is food on offer from all over the world and I think the smaller stands try harder to offer good food at a good price. There are some wooden steps, like bleachers, at one end where we were able to sit, and a small restaurant behind the bleachers where some bought beer to drink as they ate. Loads of options so look around.

We visited Borough Market for the first time recently, having heard lots about it. It was so good! The whole area around Borough Market is really interesting, with large historic buildings and tunnels. The market itself has a huge variety of food vendors, selling both hot snacks and meals, as well as cheese, meat, fruit and vegetables etc. We will definitely be back as we only explored some of it, so there will still be plenty of tasty things to try on our next visit. I'd recommend going early. We arrived at around 10 and it wasn't too busy but by midday, it was absolutely packed with long queues (although the queues do seem to move fairly quickly). It's definitely a fun way to spend the day, with lots of other things to do nearby when you need a break from eating!

We visited at about 9:45am on a Sunday morning. Technically, it doesn't open until 10am, but plenty of vendors were already selling at that point. Queues were minimal too. We had strawberries covered in chocolate from Turnip (£8.50), alfajores from Portena (£1.50 each), and doughnuts from Bread Ahead. All really good food, and there were so many other options on offer, but it was a bit early for ice-creamd or Indian food! We spent less than an hour there and it was starting to get really busy by the time we left. If visiting with kids, early is definitely the way to go!

Amazing food - best beef Rendang at Joli! Must try when in the market - definitely one of our top meals in London! Went on a weekday during our trip and had to come back on our last day to have the beef rendang again (so good!!!). Their laksa was also very good as well! The market was much busier on Saturday morning than the weekday morning so would suggest to come on a weekday during your trip if possible. A few places we visited and would recommend include the Gentlemen Baristas borough cafe (better than Monmouth coffee in my opinion and no lines!). We of course had to try the sausage roll at the Ginger Pig and it did not disappoint! Also randomly came across Tea2You and it was really good - looks like lots of celebrities visited there and I tried one of the Prince Harry’s favourites. Cider bar was also a great experience to try many local ciders in one spot. We contemplated doing a food tour but timing didn’t work out but found the market easy to navigate for good eats on our own and with some research (probably cheaper doing on our own than food tour as well even though I always enjoy the guide commentary). Must visit and great lunch option when in London!
