Address
Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

Great Market And Food Experience
Jun 2021
Never been before but on our walk along the Thames from Southwark down to London Bridge (definitely a trip I recommend) we deviated off to Borough Market and were extremely pleased with with what we found.

It's a general food market as you would expect but it's filled with the unconventional and some really eclectic stalls covering everything from meats, veg and dairy to cakes, spices, breads, cheese, wine etc etc.

Added to that there's all manner of food outlets with everything fresh and being cooked before your eyes. The breadth of cuisine is enormous and if it's not a bar you sit at (tapas style), it's a food stand, street food vendor or full on restaurant. There are pubs and places to eat and drink all around too.

The nature of the site means you navigate under the bridges and arches of the railways, with ironwork roofs keeping everything below dry. We spent hours there and still think we missed bits.

Definitely worth a visit and if I lived near it I'd never shop at a supermarket again.

Over hyped
Jun 2021
Half hearted staff barely challenged non mask wearers as they plunged towards the throngs within the market. We certainly found where everyone in London wasa s it was oppressively crowded. Most of the stalls could barely be seen through the crowds and the prices were generally high for what is, after all, takeaway street food.

Frankly, it's a lot of hype and there are better places for an experience, and easier places to eat.

Lovely foodie market
Jun 2021
Visited here on a recent visit to the capital. Really enjoyed meandering around the stalls enjoying all the wonderful fare from many parts of the world. We visited on a Monday so it was quite quiet, but still nice to have visited.

Great street food
May 2021 • Couples
Much better than an ordinary restaurant the market has loads of choice.
The street food area is tucked away to the Western side of the market. It has at least 15 different food stands/carts offering something from most corners of the world.
We opted for Iraqi from a stand at the entrance to the food section called Kubba. We choose Lamb Kebab and Chicken Kebab, both of which attests amazing.

Great bit of lunch amongst the bustle
May 2021 • Family
We were eagerly looking forward to grabbing some lunch I'm Borough Market with our three children and it didn't disappoint. The bustle was great and there were lots of 'covid wardens' around ensuring good queuing etc. We wished we'd gone s little earlier as our children were hungry when we got there so we mainly got to look round the street food/hot food area. They had pasta which was a bit of a disappointment. We had Mexican which was delicious. My partner wanted an alcoholic drink and on a quick sweep round one of the only ones I could find was a coder place and opted for medium dry New Forest cider. It unfortunately tasted like homebrew and my husband thought it was pretty unpleasant (as did I) - definitely an acquired taste and we've sampled quite a lot of cider over the years! The seating was fab and the sun was shining. Overall we had a great experience.
