Although there have been various earlier entertainment buildings on the site the reconstructed Adelphi Theatre, with its art deco interiors, opened to the public in December 1930 with Jessie Matthews starring in Ever Green. The front-of-house areas of the Adelphi Theatre were restored to their original lustre and extravagance in 1993 when Andrew Lloyd Webber became co-owner and opened his musical production of Sunset Boulevard. Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless The Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Revivals of Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have proved enormously popular. More recently, the theatre played host to the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies.

Really good show, great casting, we left smiling from ear to ear. Not sure some 'macho men' would agree and the audience was predominantly ladies, but would thoroughly recommend. The seats were OK and leg room was good. The stalls do not slope very much, so unlucky if you get someone tall in front of you, we had L6 &... More

The main characters are well built. The plot is light, but it has some "life lessons", things that make you think. Kinky Boots is cheerful, full of colors and lively music. I left the theatre really happy, wanting to sing and to dance!!!

This was my second time seeing kinky boots at the Adelphi, cast are on point, great atmosphere and really easy to get in and out of the theatre without much queues or hassle. If you've not seen kinky boots, it's a must! I was totally not keen when my friend suggested it back in May but I was so wrong,... More

I wasn't sure if I would like this musical, but I really did! In fact I left with a big smile on my face. Excellent performances, set design and location. Would recommend for most ages.

Superb cast, excellent story and such amazing singing! I've watched the Kinky Boots movie but it is well worth the money to watch the Musical as well as it is so entertaining! Right from the get-go, it was song after song, scene after scene that you have barely time to catch your breath until the intermission! The actors and actresses... More

The rest of the audience loved it, I didn't. Despite the fact that the staging was great and the dancing well coordinated the singing was disappointing in parts and the lyrics are facile. The amplification was far too LOUD for comfort, so if you are sensitive to this take, ear plugs....you will still hear it perfectly well! Nobody was humming... More

Had the opportunity to see this show tonight. I have to say it was great fun & a real pleasure to watch & listen to the performers on stage. A simple enough storyline told with lots of energy. Some truly great moments of singing and comic timing. Easy to watch and thoroughly enjoyable I can highly recommend. Drag Queens rock.

This must be one of the best feel good musicals in London at present. The staging, singing and most of all the choreography were all superb. Everyone was on their feet at the end of the show and the audience left feeling a lot better and thoroughly entertained.

Managed to get some last minute tickets in the stalls for a Monday night. Many West End shows give the 'named celebrity stars' a night off on a Monday. If this was the case for Kinky Boots, you wouldn't know, as everyone was really good. Having seen the film we knew the (based on truth) story, but this certainly didn't... More
