This is hard to find, in Ely Place, close to Hatton Garden, and until you walk 200 yards into Ely Place, you won't see it. They have a Crypt, and the Church itself. Wonderful stained glass. Built in the 1200's, and still doing Mass every...More

This lovely church is just a stone's through from bustling Hatton Garden in the historic cul de sac which is Ely Place. The stained glass is lovely but for me the highlight were the stone sculptures of men and women martyred at Tyburn.

Probably one of the best hidden churches in London, set back between Georgian terraced houses in a private road off an otherwise unremarkable City of London side street. But what a fabulous experience it is once you do locate it. It's the oldest Catholic chapel...More

A lovely church tucked away down a city street in London. The huge stained glass window is amazing and the whole church is totally unexpected down this cul de sac full of offices. Don’t miss the cafe.

Went to a friends 70th in this remarkable location. One felt good just being there and it oozed a kind of spirituality of positivity rather than fire and brimstone It would be equally a sensational venue for a wedding or christening.

It's worth reading up on their website before visiting this interesting and historic church. Beautiful architecture, lovely stained glass windows and lots of history. Tucked away between Regency/Georgian houses in Ely Place. We visited for a wedding with reception in the church crypt - magical!!

While searching for a church to attend mass on All Saints' Day, I came across St Etheldreda's. A church dedicated to my 'patron saint'! What's more, it's the oldest Catholic church in England. It's a beautiful little church of ancient stone with gorgeous stained glass...More

Discovered this beautiful church during lunchtime explorations of the Farringdon area. Although signposted, it's 'hidden' in Ely Place. The downstairs room was full of diners on my first visit, so couldn't be entered. That treat came later. The church upstairs was open however and is...More

The church's website does not mention this. It does mention that Henry VIII visited Ely Palace with Catherine of Aragon. It would be unlikely that he married in this chapel. Bishop West of Ely opposed the divorce from... More
