The Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) is Sir Christopher Wren's riverside masterpiece and one of London's most popular attractions. The iconic buildings stand on the site of Greenwich Palace, Henry VIII's favourite royal residence, and were originally designed as a refuge for old and injured sailors. The buildings and grounds are open daily and include the Painted Hall, Chapel and Discover Greenwich Visitor Centre. Admission is free.

The Old Royal Naval College is stunning. Visited on a Saturday, and took the painted ceiling tour. It was great to learn about the history of the ORNC, and the significance of the paintings. Thanks to the scaffolding from the conservation work, we got to...More

The painted ceiling tour is brilliant. Very knowledgeable guide explaining the history. Up on the platform you see up close parts of the painting that will be invisible from the ground. Fascinating detail including evidence of previous restorations. Highly recommended.

This was our first visit to the Old Royal Naval College and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. We joined a free guided tour which last about 50 minutes and was well worth it as the guide was very good. We had also booked the Painted...More

Visited mid week. Took the free guided walk starting from the visitor centre. Guided walk lasts about 40 minutes. Guide named carol very informative. Walk is both in doors and out. Worth taking the tour to get most out of visit.

Before the tour you are kitted out with hard hat, hi-viz and earphones. You then have a 10 minute talk before ascending the stairs to the roof. I was told it is approximately 70 steps to the top but fear not if you are unable...More

The best way to get here is by the scenic river boats. What an amazing place sitting at the side of the river, this location has been used in many films and tv productions for both interior and exterior scenes.

Greenwich Mean Time starts here, so to speak, as the

of Greenwich's historic town center, its Royal Park
and a number of related buildings (and one world
famous ship, the Cutty Sark) make up the UNESCO World

You cannot park in the college grounds. There is an expensive car park at the other end of the college. It would be much better to park at the hotel. Besides it's lovely to walk to it as there's so much to see around there... More
