Once the West End's most salubrious cottage, supposedly the haunt of Wilde, Orton, Gielgud & Crisp, CellarDoor is now London's cult cabaret bar, secreted beneath the Aldwych in a space just big enough for cats (both feline and human) to swing. We're open until 1AM seven nights a week with free acts from 9PM each evening including drag queens, femme fatales, magicians, crooners, burlesque beauties & more.

We stumbled upon the entrance to The Cellar Door walking back to our hotel to settle in for the night - 5 hours later we made it! Intimate seating in traditional cabaret style, we honestly weren't sure what to think but after our first cocktail - twists on traditionals from an extremely talented bartender, I was hooked. I am amazed... More

Visited this little jewel of a club on Tuesday to see the inimitable Pete Saunders and Bow Peep deliver their witty, teasing act, with Miss B P's ironic portrayal of a kind of suburban sexual heaven, and lightning response to the audience complemented by Pete's driving keyboard, always musical, sometimes wry, never anything but exciting.

Dire. Booked a burlesque afternoon tea expecting a fun filled few hours of adult humour and fun in a vibrant funky bar, what we got was some guy playing a keyboard and trying to be funny(and failing) and some woman hostess also trying to be funny(and failing worse) with a dreadful act stumbling around from bad songs, to bad jokes... Thanks for your feedback Carl. This is clearly a genuine review and I'm sorry you feel this way. The show you saw is exactly the same as the one that has received numerous fave (and, I promise you, genuine) reviews on this site. We are all different of course and I just have to acknowledge you hated the show; although... More

I love love love this place. I was travelling to London on my own to go to a concert, and went an hour out my way just to visit here. Ambience is laid back, but the place is filled with interesting people. I had a couple of the absinthe rituals, which were done to perfection – chilled mineral water dripped... More

If you want a few drinks/cocktails, late on, in the Covent Garden area, with some comedy/cabaret/singing/burlesque on offer then give the Cellar Door a try. I've never booked, just turned up on spec after finishing up somewhere else. Pitched up a few nights ago and had some decent cocktails and beers with friends at the bar whilst watching the cabaret... What a fabulous afternoon. My Sister and I took my Mum to London to celebrate her 70th Birthday. We had High Tease at the Cellar Door and right from the moment we walked in we had so much fun. Glass of Fizz on arrival, staff were wonderful and the ambience was fantastic. Vicious Delicious and Pete on the keyboard were... More

We went for the High tea and tease. The show was really great, and both the male and female hosts were really charismatic. If I had one complaint, it was that there was a lot less burlesque than the advertising made it sound. The coctails were wonderful, and the high tea was really nice as well.

This bar is tiny and hard to find. You are looking for an awning and a set of stairs going down into the pavement just outside 1 Aldwych. It used to be a public toilet apparently. On descending the stairs you emerge in a bar seating perhaps 35. It is plush and louche. The waitress is dressed as a fallen... More
