Visited, wile on a day trip to the 'Clink Prison'.Went midweek outside of school holidays, there where only 6 other people on board, had the chance to have a good look round.Did not realize, this is a sea going ship and has sailed to America. It was fascinating to see, the cramped conditions, for the sailors and the luxury of the captains cabin,I would not have... We went to the pirate fun day on Saturday 22nd October @ 11am. There were 24 kids and 20 adults in our group. The ship is amazing and the kids had so much fun. The two actors Gun Powder Meg and Sid were very entertaining and kept the children engaged throughout the whole experience. It was also very historically informative.... More

Excellent, superb, fantastic, what more can I say. We took 24 children for an overnight stay on this replica ship. We were met by out host and taken to the den (which is just a short walk from the ship, where we changed into our costumes The actors were engaging and the children loved being part of the "show". The famous English galleon, captained by Sir Francis Drake, is best known for its voyage around the globe in the 16th century. Her name was originally Pelican, but Drake renamed her after the crest of his patron, Sir Christopher Hatton. The full-size replica of the ship is berthed at St Mary Overie Doc, after travelling around 230 thousand kilometers all... More

Thank you very much for your kind word. It is true, our Golden Hinde help us share the voyage of Sir Francis Drake but also has a wonderful history of her own! She has traveled more than 140,000 mi (230,000 km). Like the original ship, she has circumnavigated the globe. More

We booked our overnight stay as a group of eight, four adults and four children. We were met by our host who took us to the Den (off-ship) to change into our costumes and take a tankard! The kids loved dressing up and enjoyed that the adults got to dress up too. Once on board we were greeted by the... More

I have always been interested in the Tudors so decided to have a look round the Golden Hinde II, which is a full-size reconstruction of the original Golden Hinde, the sixteenth-century flagship of Sir Francis Drake. Sir Francis Drake was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe in an epic three year voyage (1577 to 1580) and named the west... More

Well worth a visit and even better because we had a pre-booked tour. Very interesting having everything explained. Just looking on your own would not give you the atmosphere and feeling the history.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
