Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

    A Mid Summer Nights Dream
We went to the performance of a Mid Summer Nights Dream in the evening. The Globe is amazing and we sat in the centre at the upper level back row so we could have a back rest. The cushions are well worth the small cost to hire as well. The performance was good the actors clearly enjoy the play. It made for a memorable night out in London.

Interesting to see and learn about Shakespeare
I did the one hour guided tour on a rainy Sunday morning. It's cool to see the stage and building and how it would've probably looked back in the day (this is a replica built in the 1990s, as the original theater was destroyed). Our guide Martin was very informative and funny, telling us about the history of the theater and Shakespeare's connection to it. It's a little bit pricey (£25 I think) and I wouldn't say it's a must-do while in London, but it was interesting to see and learn some history. There's also some exhibits in the ticket entry building you can go to after your tour is done, just ask the folks where it is if you're having trouble finding it.

Midsummer Night’s Dream Guided Tour with Clive
Clive was funny and very knowledgeable. Really down to earth and did a great job of making the theatre world accessible. Liked the anecdotes he included to bring the tour to life. Really added to our appreciation of the performance that evening!

    Brilliant
We went to see the Comedy of Errors and had a good look around the theatre without going on a tour before it filled up. Atmospheric and great to see Shakespeare performed in the environment the plays were designed for. The cast were excellent. Only £5 or £10 to stand in the gallery but remember some of the Bard's plays are long so depending on your fitness it might be best to pay for a seat which starts at £25. Highly recommended but the bars are expensive so get a drink in a nearby pub.

    Shakespeare Walking Tour
This was a fun and informative walking tour of the Southwark area around the new Globe Theatre. Our tour guide, Mick was engaging and really helped paint a picture of what the time of Shakespeare what have looked and felt like. We were able to walk by historical sites, including the foundation of the original globe and the rose theater. It was not only a tour about Shakespeare, but also general history of the area. It led to a greater understanding, and was enriching for our family. We really enjoyed leading the good, the bad, and the ugly about what life would’ve been like back then. We are so glad we took the tour! Thanks Mick, for a great experience!

    Mark's globetrotting tour
I had Mark show us round Shakespeare's Globe. The man clearly knew his stuff and loved it! It was so interesting to not only learn about it but try and imagine it back in their time. Highly recommend. I did not realise at the time that it is still a working theatre so if you want to catch a show, consider it. I would have if I had known.

    Thoroughly enjoyed it
Always wanted to go to see a play here. It was even better than expected. Saw a midsummer night’s dream and it was very good indeed. Yes the seats are not exactly comfy, but isn’t that the point - the authentic experience - but glad I paid extra for the cushion

    Highly recommend!
I had a great time yesterday at Shakespeare's Globe. I started with the Globe Story & Tour, immediately followed by the Pride Tour. Both guides were great, our guide for the Pride Tour was especially engaging and fun! I then stayed for The Comedy of Errors at 1pm. Highly recommend. Will come back for more tours!

A great visit to the Globe & fabulous show
We so enjoyed our visit to the Globe to see a Midsummer’s Nights Dream…the show was fantastic and I had no idea that Shakespeare could be so funny! All the staff were spoke to were helpful and pleasant and the range of drinks available during the interval was impressive. My only gripe, and it’s a small one, was that the bench seats are very uncomfortable, but we hired cushions for the second half, which helped!

Fun night out and some culture to boot
I attended a performance of Comedy Of Errors and it was really fun. It was very cool to sit in a recreation of a theater there the show premiered - and they cut down the show to a very manageable 100 minutes (no intermission). If you are sitting I advise booking the front or back row of a section, and paying the few pounds extra for a cushion. Overall a surprisingly fun evening out with friends

This is a truly amazing site to visit, treat yourself, go on the tour, and see a show. Sheltered but outside the theater. The play was outstanding. Get some delicious meals before or after your visit because it's near to Borough Market.

One of the first glorious days in london this year so it seemed everywhere was busy we walked from london bridge through borough market and along to the globe so many people all out enjoying the sun
Had got the tickets a month or so before so was pleased it wasn't raining.
Quite busy inside we had lower gallery seats we had a teenager in our party, she hasnt seen or read any Shakespeare yet and she enjoyed the performance
The only negative I've never been to any show, performance where so many people turn up late I can understand maybe a few but at least 5 times we had to move or were blocked but late arrivals trying to find there seat and not just a little late so this did spoil it

Epic visit during Easter hols, second visit this year and second play for £10 or less, this time Romeo and Juliet! One of Shakespeare’s best known plays authentically adapted to ensure accessibility for all ages and audiences, truly spectacular!

Wonderful experience of a modern day production of Romeo and Juliet. We sat on the seats which are wooden benches and paid for the cushions which were a god send lol. Fantastic experience

We used the London Pass to visit the Globe Theatre. Paige was our tour guide and she was phenomenal. You can tell she definitely loves her job and everything about Shakespeare. She was very informative.

Had a wonderful time with my family (kids ages 11, 15,18). The museum section was informative and fun. The whole family had a wonderful time dressing up and learning interesting facts about the time and plays. The tour was the highlight. We had a wonderful guide who entertained us with his jokes as he gave us an in-depth look into the workings of the theatre and the life and times of Shakespeare. A wonderful way to bring Shakespeare's life and plays to life.

Definitely order the cushion. You are sitting on the bench. There is nothing to lean back on, so you can lean forward with the rail in front of you. May have the most restrictive legroom I’ve ever had, but at 6 feet, I made the best of it, and really enjoyed myself. View is excellent.

We went on the guided tour and had a great time! Our guide, Mick, was very obviously passionate and knowledgeable on Shakespeare and the Globe Theatre’s history. His insights into the processes used in performances from the past as well as current shows were very interesting and his quips and jokes were very fun and informative at the same time! I understand you can’t request a guide, but if possible, ask for Cockney Mick!

Want to say a massive thank you to all the staff from admin, check-in, to our guide Jack, in regards to our KS3 Education workshop and tour today. Jack was fantastic even getting the most shy to participate in fun learning of Macbeth. Very friendly, professional staff, full of knowledge. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back for a show.
