Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
How to get there

It's not bad except in bad weather
Oct 2021 • Solo
The Shakespeare Globe use to be my favourite theatre to go to but now I don't think I'm the target audience anymore.Over the past three years they've been reimagining a lot of the plays very badly and they don't make sense when they don't follow the books.I recently went to see the reimagined version of Romeo and Juliet and I felt like the play was aimed at children and it just reminded me of the 1996 film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in it.They even reimagined the As You Like It play but the acting was that bad I couldn't wait for it to finish and when the fans were clapping at the end of the play I thought I watched a complete different play to them.
Before 2019 I would of gave The Globe 4* but because I'm not their target audience anymore and that the acting in the plays is getting worse I only gave it a 3*

Excellent informative guided tour
Our guide was very knowledgeable and he made sure our small group was kept involved throughout this one hour tour. Full of interesting and often humorous facts. Well worth the money.

Metamorphoses at the Globe
Oct 2021
Went to see Metapmorphoses at the SamWanamaker Playhouse in the Globe. Wonderful performance, heavy on atmosphere and with a modern take. This included some swear words and a sing along (to American Pie !) which didn't overpower the stories themselves. I had a £5 standing ticket but for 90 mins wasn't too bad.

Romeo and Juliet
Oct 2021
When going to the globe I expect to see a play performance as or as near to the way Shakespeare would have seen it produced in like Romeo and Juliet unlike the hacking that was performed ? On Saturday. The oriel was reasonable, but the costumes well undisputed rubbish.get a director how appreciates Shakespeare not their self !.

Tour Guide excellent
Sep 2021 • Couples
Guide was excellent, really enjoyed our visit. Good value for money. Due to our 10 am slot didn't have the afternoon tea in the Swan. Would have been good for this to be open so we could have grabbed a coffee afterwards, instead of the Starbucks chain.

Great tour of the globe theatre. A very entertaining and memorable one. Although a bit pricey it was well worth the cost. A living piece of history.

Midsummer Nights Dream
Sep 2021
Great play - good audience and a lively group of actors who worked hard. If there was any slight criticism was that Helena (I think) voice was a little quiet so missed what she was saying but it didn't detract from the performance. Good to be back and a great day.
